I want to do something special for my mother...

I had a terrible 2008. My parents, me, and my boyfriend were supposed to go to Disney World in December 2008 but I got laid off in October (the week of the stock market crash ugh) and I have been unable to find another full time job. Now that Disney is offering the fabulous deal where you pay for 4 nights, get 3 nights free plus a $200 gift card, my mother has booked a trip for all of us in March AND she's footing the entire bill. Even though I am still kind of strapped for cash, I would really like to do something nice for her while we're there and I need ideas. Thanks!

Why not have a gift delivered to your/her room? You could try the Disney Florist http://www.disneyflorist.com/ but if they don't have anything to your liking, you could try Memories by Betsy http://www.memoriesbybetsy.com/Memories_by_Betsy/Welcome.html

Betsy had pre-made gift ideas you can choose from or you can tell her the types of things your mom likes and she can give you suggestions as to what to include in your gift. She'll assemble the gift and ensure that it is delivered to your hotel the day you check in. I did this for my mom on our trip this past December. It wasn't in the room when we first arrived but it was there when we got back from dinner. They had delivered it along with our luggage.

 Speaking as a Mother!!! Nothing says love like carving out a little time for just the two of you. Even if you went to breakfast, just the two of you I'm sure she would love it. I know with our daughter any time spent together is really special. Just trying to coordinate schedules is tough. Enjoy!! I bet the CM's would even make a fuss if you let them know it's a special occassion.

During the trip, make sure you take a lot of pictures and save some mementos. When you get back make a little scrapbook or photo album and write out a nice thank you to her as part of the gift. :)

Two words...Spa Day. Try the Grand Floridian or Saratoga Springs. It doesnt' really even have to be a full day, just a facial or a pedicure and some 'girl time.' That's my two cents.

Thanks :) Whenever I feel down about not being able to find a job I watch Cinderella. Because "through it all, Cinderella remained ever gentle and kind." Positive thinking goes a long way!

Thanks to everyone for your great ideas!

Sorry to hear about your 2008 - but I am sure that 2009 will be fabulous for you - having been there myself, and come out the other end - I am sure that all will be okay! :sohappy:

As for doing something nice for your mum - I would def say spend time with her - as my mum loves that! Either a spa day or perhaps you could try afternoon tea at the GF - not too pricey, but totally worth it for the atmosphere - when I was last there, I saw lots of women catching up and enjoying the experience, with smiles all round.

Hope you have a fab holiday whatever you decide! :animwink:

While you're there just let her know how much you appreciate her generosity and how much you love her.

Good luck with the job search. It's a tough time out there, as I'm sure I don't have to tell you. We're keeping our fingers crossed about my DH's job in manufacturing.

Why not take her out to dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table. You'd be able to have your picture taken together with Cinderella and the picture comes included with dinner.

Possibly take one of those 4-person bike rides around the Boardwalk, but tell her to put her feet up!

Also, maybe make a few calls and ask for suggestions for dining. It's not so much how expensive the meal is, but how much it caters to your mother's tastes. If you know she absolutely loves something, then surprise her with her favorite meal while on the trip.

And, I'd definitely make sure to tell the CM's at any chance you get, they're sure to do something special.

Oh, and this might sound corny, but something funny to do is sometimes matching outfits. Those families w/the matching T's or novelty stuff are always adorable. My wife ordered us all plain gray T's with black outlines of our favorite characters on one trip. She gave them to us a week before we left, and we ended up all wearing them on the same day during our trip.

Hope you have fun, and good luck in this next year...
