I Think I Was Spoiled

So as a precursor to my self proclomation that i think i am spoiled i will give you a back drop. 9 years ago my wife and i went to WDW on our honeymoon and stayed at CBR. This was the first time we stayed on property. We did so again the next year and stayed at CBR. CBR was perfect for us and we loved it. The following year we changed it up and stayed at Coronado Springs. It was nice but imo not as nice as CBR. The next year we did not go b/c we had twin boys. So the year after they were born we decided to take them to WDW (I know crazy with twin 1 1/2 year olds but they were great and had a great time). We thought about CBR but with a double stroller and the bus situation we thought that would be to crazy. We decided to pony up and go for the POLY which we absolutley loved b/c of the atmosphere and the fact you could roll the stroller right onto the monorail. So we did this for the next few trips and never regretted staying at the POLY. Last year we were not able to go b/c we just purchased a new house and the same with this year b/c of the expenses with the new house. We are planning on going next year in August but have decided that we cant do the POLY. My sons (6yrs old now) are upset by this but like any 6 yr old got over it quickly with WDW as the bigger picture. The problem is I am really upset by this. I have come accustomed to the POLY and even though enjoyed my stay at CBR in the past, i cant imagine staying anywhere else other than the POLY. Unfortunately, i am not made of money and that being said I know the fact that you only sleep etc in the hotel but boy do i want to stay at the POLY. All in all i know that being at WDW is the main point of this but like i said in the title, I think I was spoiled by the POLY!!!

I just realized there was no point to my story but I typed all of it so im going to post it anyway. Thanks for reading my ramblings!!!!

What you posted is the lament of many WDW diehards who have a mortgage and kids. Where we want to stay and where we can stay do not always agree with our pocketbook. You will have a great time. CBR is beautiful. We just stayed there on our trip in November 2010. Will you miss Poly? Sure. Just make sure and have dinner at Ohana and all will be well.
You'll be in the world and that's all that matters.

there are other deluxe resorts out there, and great moderates as well, that you can try.

you branched out to try other resorts. might have to again, due to finances... you might be pleasantly surprised...

however, being able to go to wdw is better than not being able to at all...

The force is strong with this one........(sorry, couldn't help it.)

We had always stayed at value resorts and loved them. Then we moved to mods to try them and loved the quiet pools, more room and few extra amenities. Four years ago, we became D.V.C. members and have stayed 7 times since we joined...at Saratoga Springs, Bay Lake Tower, Boardwalk, and Animal Kingdom Villas (Kidani and Jambo House). We have become very used to all the things we never thought we'd care about...fitness center, kitchenettes, private balconies, full service restaurant, etc.

So, like you, my rambling has a point too. Two years ago we had a chance to stay at POP for a week (and did so), and we weren't sure how much we'd enjoy it after doing mods and deluxe for several years. Well, we had a great time! Yes, we prefer staying at the D.V.C. Villas, but staying at POP again was still a blast. Point: When you can go to WDW and stay on property, go and enjoy yourself! Where you stay will be a change from the Poly, but on site at WDW will still be awesome! Go and enjoy! :)

MATT, since you are a Yankee fan you are obviously very intelligent. I have stayed at deluxe, moderate, and value resorts and have had a great time at all. My fav is French Quarter because it is small and cozy. However, on our last visit we stayed at POP and had a wonderful time. It was all new to us and we enjoyed the "adventure."

You are now a parent and I believe your offspring would enjoy the atmosphere of a value resort with their bright colors and themes and I believe you would enjoy them having a great time.

Like you said, you are just there to sleep anyway.

Live a little, get out of your comfort zone.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, I will be at the Yankee game on Sunday.

I bet your boys will LOVE all the room CBR has to offer them and ALL the pools to swim in... If one is too crowded go to another!.... So many nooks and crannies for them to explore and run wild :) I love the CBR... but one day hope to stay at the Poly of WL :)

I have to agree, we LOVE the Poly!!! However, in past years, we had to stay at other resorts at Disney. Bottom line.... you're still in Disney, still can hit the parks, make memories, eat the same great food. There's always next time.. don't fret it, there's always next time, we all make due.

I too have stayed at Pop since going deluxe and then joining DVC. I still love Pop! It is fun. Some say "You'll never go back.", but you can.

If you still feel the desire to go deluxe, Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are less expensive deluxes, and both would likely appeal to boys. Sometimes they can be booked for as little as $149/night.

We use to stay at delux resorts when i was a kid (poly and YC). Then as we got older and the family start to expand we moved down to the moderate resorts (CBR) which was ok. The last 2 times we stayed at POP which i actually liked better then the CBR. Finally this year for my parents 40th anniversary we moved back up to the Yacht Club again (since they were giving almost 40% off) and cant wait to go. 19 days and counting. THe point of this is that i have realized over the yearrs that regardless of where i have stayed the reason for being there is still the parks.

I've done WDW both luxuriously and ultra-budget.

I must say the overiding sentiment is being at the world, not the luxury you surround yourself with. If I could afford it, I'd stay at the Contemporary every time. But I work for my money and I've got adult responsibilities, so I must budget and plan.

As a tip, one could spend half the vacation budget, then spend a few days a bit more upscale. I'm travelling from Europe, so I usually do two weeks of Orlando. The way for me seems to be:
First nine days staying ultra cheap off site (they all have a pool and a bed ). I rush from park to park all day long anyway, getting my fix in.
Then concluded by five days lounging at a Disney resort. These are the days where I have my fancy dinner reservations for which I need to change at the room. Where I have seen the fireworks up close already so I have the peace of mind to watch them from a rooftop or beach. When I have my backstage tours for which I need to arrive early, etc.

If your obsession with the Poly threatens to diminish your pleasure, then just stay there for like the final three days. Stuff like this only sits in your mind because it is out of reach. If you can actually stay there, the obsession's gon and it becomes just another resort again.

Have you priced out the Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge. Yes they are not on the monirail line but they are still Deluxe resorts but a lower price tag than the Poly. You can still hav some of benifits like great pools for the boys to enjoy. It think at the boys age they would have a blast at AKL.

We too have been spoiled by the poly. As a family we have decided to go less often and stay at a nicer hotel, although I often question our decision.

We've stayed at every resort (except the values) and love the differences in all of them. Enjoy and experience them for what they are. I love Poly and stayed concierge a time or two. Doesn't mean I still don't love laying in a hammock lakeside at Coronado.

When we have gone, we've almost always stayed off-site where we own a timeshare. When we have stayed on property, it's been value resorts. In November we are going for a long weekend and decided to stay on property. Poly is my dream Disney resort to stay at so we decided if we budget carefully, we can afford it for 4 nights with the PIN code offer I got. We're hoping for a further discount but not counting on it. It's myself, my sister and my mother. No kids as neither me or my sister have kids. We've decided that this is probably the only time in the forseeable future that we will be able to swing the funds for the Poly as we have the timeshare next year and the year after that (we have it every other year but we got a bonus week for next year somehow) We also figure in the next couple years, things could change... We might not want to go to Disney anymore (doubtful lol) or one of us could have a child or maybe we just might not be able to afford the Poly. After we booked, I thought if something happens and come November, for some reason, we can't afford it and need to change to another resort, I'd be really upset.

yes, my rambling also does have a point lol. I then realized that if we can't stay there, we can't stay there. If we need to change resorts, fine. At least we still have the money to go to WDW. Not everyone can afford it and Poly or no Poly, we will still have a great time. The same thing with you... No matter where you stay, you're at Disney and will have a good time. disney is full of resorts, all different sizes and themes. Some appeal to some more than others but there are a few that will fit your needs. So if you cant afford the Poly, branch out and see what else is out there. You might just find one you like better!!
