Darrel, where did you take that second pic from? Looks very cool! Did you go up to the arm? Some of my friends did when we went on the Disney Final Trip at the end of our program - the lazy ones (including me) went back to the hotel (Marriott Times Square) and when the others came back they came all telling us what a claustrophobic experience that was. They got stuck for hours in the narrow stairs without being able to go up or down. ;)

Maria, unless things have changed, you can no longer go inside the Statue. Since 9/11 its been closed. You can only visit the island. (still impressive)

Having lived in Manhattan for years now, I've begun to forget what a cool place this really is. It's amazing how even Time Square, over time, just sort of... well... it's just sort of there.

I do love hearing when people enjoy it. More people need to visit.
And a suggestion for theatre... rather than see Phantom, which is okay in its own right... try some of the new shows. "Wicked" is particularly unbelievable! A must see for any NYC native or visitor.

For Joels Birthday (almost over 2 months ago LOL) His mom gave him a homemade coupon good for dinner for 2 and a broadway show (we only live about 45 minutes away by train) and we still havent picked a show...
You mentioned Wicked...is that a musical? Is there anything else you suggest? I think I know what resteraunt i want to go to (if only i could remember the name!!! its some steakhouse on 50th and maybe umm lexington?)

We're taking a romantic anniversary kind of trip this summer, just a long weekend. We're going to see The Producers. And Darrel! I'm glad you had a good time! Sorry you missed your concert though. :(

Producers, normally, is actually an easy ticket. There's a lot of misinformation about that. The management for the show works really hard to keep demand artificially high.

"Wicked" is the show that will win every tony this year. It is a retelling of the childhood and life of the wicked witch of the west from her point of view. It has amazing music... the best cast (Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowitz, not to mention Joel Grey)... and a couple of mind blowing flying sequences.

I'm actually pretty anti-Phantom. It's part of the schlocky British boom. No one in NYC ever goes to see it. A friend of mine was Raoul for a couple of years and has some great stories to tell, however.

When looking at shows on b'way, there are three types. Tourist shows (like phantom, les mis, 42nd street), NY shows (like avenue Q), and mixes (like Wicked).

Not sure about a steakhouse at 50th a lex... however, Palm is located on 50th between b'way and 8th. Could that be it? Palm was a big investment banker hangout in the late 80's and is still known for being a good steakhouse.

My wife and I were planning a trip to New York for our 10th in late September, but that was the year of 9/11 and we thought it best not to fly at that time. We are now looking at our 15th.

Glad to hear you had a good time.

LUCKY YOU!!! My daughter and her boyfriend saw "The Producers" last summer, and said it was TERRIFIC! (Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick had left the show at that point, but the two actors who replaced them were excellent.)

Well the altercation with the Tv camera crew was they were shooting a comercial infront of the time/life building and we were on the sidewalk across the street on our way to the subway when I stopped to get my camera out so I could take a picture of the building, when this girl, one of the camera crew, got real snotty with me and told me to keep walking, which ticked me off and I called her a few choice names and her partner a guy said WOO and started to walk towards me when I gave him this look like you want a peice of me, when he just put his arms up and then I turned around and just started to walk towards the subway lol

Well, gee... maybe a nice, Disney-like attitude would have improved the situation. Nobody likes a name-caller. :D
