I miss the parks simply being open until midnight, as they once were.
I do miss the times when there were less guests, longer operating hours, more rides. What bliss! Nothing beats watching a parade at 11 PM, followed by a quick round of the Mountains. :sohappy:
Disney can keep its EMH, E-Ride nights, early closing of FW and all that nonsense. Just keep the parks open again already.
I pay top dollar for my vacation, don't throw me out of FW at seven PM so you can cut costs plus get me to spend on drinks in WS. :fork:
EXCELLENT post, and I completely agree! (and I'm sure WDW74 would, too!).
That's why I actually seem to enjoy the MK more during peak seasons such as Christmas and spring break (summer is too hot for my taste), and get to do more, when the hours are longer, even though it's more crowded! (and some people are surprised when I say that, but here's why)
Fastpass makes the crowded middle part of the day easy to manage, which makes it less neccessary for it to be a lightly attended day to have a good afternoon.
And then, instead of the park closing WITH the fireworks and having shorter hours like during slow season, and having just one parade (or no parade on some nights) - during peak season you can do attractions while everyone else is waiting for and watching the first parade. Then after the fireworks, TONS of people leave, making the lines for everything much shorter.
You can then see the second parade in a much less crowded, more magical, personal experience with tons of room, which makes the characters more likely to notice and interact with you!
And THEN, if the park is open AFTER the second parade, such as a MIDNIGHT or even 1 AM close, EVERYTHING is a walk-on after that second parade! That's why I've had such good days/nights on New Year's Eve, because the 2AM close gives me quite a bit of walk-ons on favorites, and it's a magical way to start my year!
The same strategy, of course, works for Fantasmic when there are two shows. You have more time to do attractions during park hours when everyone else is getting to that first show an hour early, and then watching that show. Then, you can walk into the second show (which starts either at closing time or AFTER closing time) right before it starts, get a great seat, and you're watching the show "after hours" instead of losing time on the attractions.
I also COMPLETELY agree about Future World. This is not really an issue for me when I do a full day at Epcot because I can plan for it, but when I park-hop there after another park closes, I'm usually getting there after 7, and it would nice to be able to ride some of my FW favorites that are affected by those hours, such as Figment, Energy, and Living With the Land.
Lastly, I enjoy AK the most when it has the longer hours, because I don't feel as rushed when spending time with the animals, and I enjoy the beauty of the park at night! (such as during "standard time" in winter/early spring when it gets dark before 8)
