I severely hate viruses

I am currently on my dear friend's computer because mine, sadly, is dead. I think I'm going to cry. I hate my stupid roommate, I never should have trusted her alone with my $1000+ computer. So yeah, hopefully I'll be able to find someone to fix it, but if not...well, I certainly won't be on here nearly as often, seeing as how I definately don't have a thousand bucks lying around to get a new laptop..

What happened to the computer? I'm sure it can easily be fixed and you won't need to buy a new laptop. Unless she spilled something in it or something, it can probably be fixed. It probably needs to have Windows reinstalled. Ask around at work. I'll bet someone you work with will fix it for you for free since it's probably not a big deal.

And never trust anyone with your electronics. It sounds silly, but it's one of the main reasons I won't do the CP. I don't want people near my computer.

So what happened? Did she drop it down the stairs or is it just software? There is got to be someone down there that can correct it without resorting to buying another computer.

Like the others have said, what's wrong with it? If it's that windows won't boot you can just pop the reinstall disc in there and follow the on-screen instructions. Googling the problem would help, or ask around on tech related message boards. We could probably help if we knew exactly what the problem was.

From the thread title, it appears her roomate downloaded a virus which corrupted her hard drive.

Been there, done that, had to wipe it clean and reinstall Windows. You will unfortunately lose all your files, but you will still have an operating computer.

Oh, yeah, viruses suck. My sister screwed up my aunt's PC once, because she entered a website that downloaded a virus. So, my aunt was using the PC (showing something to a CLIENT at work) and a very indecent picture pops out. She closes it. Some time later, another one pops out. She closes it. And the pictures started opening faster, and more and more indecent. It got to a point they were opening faster than she could click and she had to turn off the PC. She had to call a technician to format it, and she lost all her data.
