I never got to go on Alien Encounters

I REALLY loved AE! Had some very good memories there, like when my DS was 7 and TOTALY lost his mind and tried to get out of the ride. FUNNY now but then he was so scared thought he was gonna have the BIG ONE.:ROFLOL:
Stitch just isn't worth it....IMHO:shrug:

AE was awesome in my opinion, and I'm still sad that they decided to close it. I haven't been on SGE yet, and from the reviews, it sounds like maybe I shouldn't.

The problem with SGE is that Disney tried to cater to too many different sorts of people, and ended up alienating (no pun intended) them all. SGE is too scary for kids, too twee for teens and most adults, and a mockery for Disney fans. At least AE successfully attracted one group of people, showing that theater rides can be scary too. ;)

Alien Encounter was a great, often maligned, often misunderstood, entertaining diversion from the status quo.

It's very uniqueness was it's strength and it's downfall.

Actually, it closed because too many people at WDW refused to read the warning signs.

Whether it was due to lack of intelligence or the inability to read, I really can't say.

I stand by my past comments.

AE was by far - light years - better than SGE:hurl:....

I cringe every time I walk by SGE and think of the "what once was"...

It's not that SGE is bad - it's just not, well, it's not, well, OK - it's bad. The AA is one of the best for the huge size that it is...but the show - definitly leaves something to be desired.

**sigh**

Ya, PLEASE dont waste your time. I'm 15 and I cried. I was clostrophobic (however you spell it), they spray nasty smelling stuff in your face, it wass terrible.

I agree with you on this one. I really like your comments, they sum up your/my opinion really well.

I've often thought that if it was put in the Studios (which many casual fans consider a more "adult" park) AE would have had a longer shelf life since people would have taken the warnings more seriously.

Am I the only one here who didn't like AE? That, and I have no lament for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, either. I see what people write about these rides, and I wonder what it was I was missing.

Anyway, my Stitch-crazed DD6 rode SGE, and even she didn't like it.
I never rode the WDW version of Mr. Toad, but I have ridden the DL version.
I honestly don't get what's so great about it?
The h e double hockey sticks scene is so hot that its similar to torture, and the rest of it just seems tacky.

Sit in a dark room with two 5 pound weights on your shoulder, while a friend shouts out people yelling and growling, while he spits at you and tickles your head.

That's about it. Not that it was bad, just that it was WAAAAYYYY too scary for Magic Kingdom. Plus, it would've been better had it been based on Alien like they wanted too, IMHO.

I think for those that liked the attraction, the story was the most important element of the attraction. If what was posted above is all you got out of the attraction, I feel for you because you missed the point completely. It wasn't for everyone that's for sure, but even most that hated it could see that it wasn't as typical, simple theme park storyline. Not too ofter do you get something in theme parks that can work on so many different levels. Honestly, how many satirical dark comedy-horror blends do you see? This would have been just another run of the mill attraction if they had used the Fox Alien characters, IMO. What set AE apart from what an "Alien" attraction would have been is the originality and humor. Now that AE is gone, I would love to see them try something similar at the DHS based on "Alien" because "something is better than nothing". But I'm not holding my breath.

Hey, I'm not knocking the story. It was a really good story. In fact, one of my all time favorite ride quotes is "Doubt is the rust of a feeble mind."
:D

(Not to plug it, but I did make a nice Alien Encounter Tribute shirt in my Zazzle shop with that quote on it.)

I just think it was a great idea, but was sadly, doomed from the start.
