Hey everyone!
I need help !!!! I have a group that goes to the hospital every month to the pediatric floor and does arts and crafts with the sick kids. I will be there Friday (Jan 21) and I want to do a Disney/Mickey and friends type theme. I decide on making Mickey and Minnie ear hats. That's all I can think of though. I usually can think of a lot of ideas but I have been busy with college applications. PLEASE POST ANY IDEAS as soon as possible!

Please and Thank you :D ,

Just off the top of my head. Why dont you cut out construction paper cut-outs of each main characters features, eyes, nose....etc. and dont put them together let the kids glue them and what not. Might keep them busy for a while.

Ooh....crafts and Mickey....my two specialties.
First of all.....what does K.R.A.F.T.S stand for? (Or is it just a cute way of saying crafts?)
I'll try to keep this hospital themed, but if you want more ideas, let me know. You also didn't state ages, or time constraints, but I'll give you what I've got.

Idea 1
How about a Mickey suncatcher? Take a piece of waxed paper, tear up pieces of colored tissue paper and glue on to the waxed paper, overlapping the edges. That gives you a mosiac effect. Then cut out three black circles for the mickey head, and frame the piece with small (1/2 inch) pieces of black paper. Let dry, and hang in a window. the waxed paper covered in tissue paper lets the sun shine through, and the black adds the Mickey effect....it's really sharp...and it will add something to the drab hospital room. I actually did this with preschool aged kids, and had the stuff already cut up, but older children can help or add more to the craft by cutting the items and ripping the tissue paper themselves.

Idea 2
Since they are staying in a hospital, how about mickey pillow case covers? You might be able to get some donated, or make some up by folding 3/4 of a yard of fabric in half and sewing up the bottom and one side. Then bring paint, stamps, stencils, etc and let the kids decorate. You can cut a Mickey head out of a kitchen sponge and let them sponge mickey's....have mickey colored paint (black red yellow) on hand, and maybe even glitter.

Idea 3
Mickey Stationary. Have nice cardstock and envelopes on hand along with Mickey rubber stamps, colored pens and markers, glitter (if you're daring) etc, and let the kids make stationary so they can write to friends and classmates, to keep in touch.

Idea 4
Mickey Mobiles to hang above the bed. Take a mickey outline (find a simple coloring page online) and have it printed on heavy paper. Have the kids color in the Mickey and cut him out, along with other shapes cut out of construction paper. then suspend all of their paper shapes from a hanger with embroidery floss, or fishing line.

Idea 5
Mickey plants. Get some terra cotta pots, and using paint, let the kids decorte them. Then plant some seeds, and let the kids grow their own flowers. You can take this a step further, by making a Mickey pick to stick in the pot as well, just attach a cut out Mickey to a popsicle stick and insert into the dirt.

I think I'm out of ideas for now, but maybe I'll post more later....hope this helps!

Thanks everyone :D ,
Sorry K.R.A.F.T.S. stands for Kids Recreating Art for Teen Students. The kids ages range from 3 to 12. Erika: I'll check out those web sites. Dixie Girl: I would love to do cupcakes but some might not be able to eat or might have food allergies bgraham; I forgot about clay people. Maybe Donald clay figures. Tigsmom: I love family fun. I use them all the time but they had no Mickey ideas. MeTa: I could make goofy cut out and paste. The older kids could do the cutting. SewIn2Disney. I love the mosaic idea! I at the moment don't have enough baby-sitting money to buy pillows or fabric. I should look to see maybe I can make a little mobiles to hang from there IV poles or beds.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH EVERYONE!!!!!!! I can't wait till Friday. I'll try to post the pictures as soon as possible. Any more Ideas are still wanted. I might go again in a few weeks because I may be interviewed for the main newspaper (Palm Beach Post)!!
Thanks again :sohappy: !

In doing a mobile, if you get those plastic things that hold six packs of soda together and cut them apart into six rounds, you could then easily tie the strings that dangle down to that piece. And then tie one across the top with a loop for hanging. I don't know how far you are from Sawgrass Mills Mall, but in the JC Penny outlet you can buy a two pack of pillowcases usually for $3.99, otherwise, I know pillowcases are very expensive. If you have some ID from the organization or if you can get someone to do a letter from the hospital for you, most craft stores like Michael's, Jo-Ann's and AC Moore would probably donate some items (like maybe blank tote bags and you could stamp them with Mickey's). These stores usually have some sort of budget for donations, so it can't hurt to ask.
