I love Telemarketers

I doubt anybody would purchase whatever they are soliciting. Not to mention the fact that the company has to pay money to employ the people giving the calls.

It seems like it would not be cost effective...

My company's revenue for the 1st quarter of this year was $77.1 million dollars. That's in slow times. When the economy was stronger and before the federal regualtions, the company was making $600-700 million a year. Profitable? Yeah, I'd have to say so!

i was going to be a telemarketer over the summer... but i didn't do it... guys be proud!

When I managed and trained in a call center, we made the reps use at least 1 rebuttal. 2 was the max.

I equate it to this:
If you walk into a car dealership and the salesman comes up to you and you say, "I'm just looking" or "I don't want to buy today", and he leaves you alone, he isn't going to have the job for long. Salesmen get you into their office or cubicle and work you, whther you think of it as a rebuttal or not, they are. Tell a salesman a reason why you don't want the car and he'll have 10 reasons why you do want it.

I think you could think of alot of people who annoy you just as much as a telemarketer. How about the shoe salesman that asks you, "What can I help you with today?" when you are just browsing. Or the Circuit City rep who hovers all over you until you buy something or leave the store. And finally, the Best Buy guy who says "We don't work off of comissions - how about taking the extended warranty - it only costs $200 for 3 years?" When you say no, they say "Well if anything goes wrong your out the money..." That my friends is more annoying than anything because you are going to buy it but you have to listen to that fool until you pay!!

Geez, I can't believe such numbers.

Raise your hand if you've not only had the patience to listen to what the telemarketers are even selling but have actually decided to make a purchase...

Frankly, I have never even listened to what they are saying past like four words...

The entire process is disruptive and wrong.

The Best Buy guy never annoys me because if I'm talking to him it means I'm getting a new toy :sohappy: And I just say no to his extended warranty pitch and walk away.

The Best Buy guy:
does not interrupt me in my house
does not keep talking so I can politely say "no" and end the conversation
does not get me off the couch when I'm vegging
can read my expression and know that there is no way I am buying what he is selling
is not bugging me when I am trying to get something done

In other words, there is no comparison.

But the problem isn't the telemarketers, but those who buy from the telemarketers. If nobody bought anything, they would be forced to stop because they would then be losing money. And no company likes to lose money ...

None of these bar stewards barge into my home or prevent me from getting on with my job, so they are in no way as bad as telemarketers.

Phlydude, you may be a decent bloke, but you are in a scumbag of an industry.

Well, I'd like to think of myself as a decent "bloke" but I know I work in an industry hated by the majority.

It pays the bills, bought me a new home and a couple new cars over the past 7 years. I'll take it.

No one aspires to be a janitor but someone has to do it...

Then they're like, it's cheaper if you also get a soda with it and I'm like I don't give a :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: :zipit: ! I'm gonna miss the movie! Shut up and give me the food I ORDERED ALREADY!!!

Although I believe "guy" now seems to refer to either male or female now as in "Hey you guys" - or is it still only male in the singular usage?

Bloke is strictly male.

I was thinking of it more in the sense of "He's a good guy".

While has become more acceptable to use the plural "guys" to describe a co-ed group of individuals, some people still take offense to females being called "guys".

Just remember, ladies don't call their night outings "Guys' night out"

About the guy/guys thing. It depends how you use it.

"You guys" or "those guys" means any gender.
"That guy" or the "guy" is usually referring to a male.
And once you type the word guy a lot, it looks strange.

Use the words "dude" or "dudette".

If you have someone calling trying to get you to switch electrcitiy, phone or gas etc suppliers, and you keep on saying no thanks, they get to the point where they ask you "Are you not interested in saving money?" You reply "No, I have plenty as it is thanks"....does the trick everytime  (...or so i've heard :D )

For us in the UK - Sign up to the Telephone Preferance Service. I've had a huge drop in telemarketing calls having done this. It's not zero, but I have gone several months at a time before some cowboy double glazing firm calls me.

Ooh, good one!...MCI kept calling to try to get us to switch phone companies. When they finally got in touch with my mom, she politely said no thanks. You think they'd take that as an answer? No siree! They kept insisting until my mom yelled at them and told them she wasn't interested and hung up on them. Geez!

I got a call from a Japanese person. I didn't hang on the line long enough but it was some college crap selling me something. I told her I wasn't interested. And then she continied how I didn't know what they were selling so I told her to go back to her own country.

Which I guess would offend some people but I don't think or believe in PC
