I Like The Wand

Actually, that’s not what Disney used to be about – it’s only in the last decade or so that Disney has played up this whole “magic” and “characters” thing. Disney used to be about innovation and unique experiences that you couldn’t get anywhere else. But thanks to all the recent marketing campaigns people seem to think that all Disney does is magical characters.

Right, and the world used to be flat until it was proven to be round. Things change and what used to be, becomes no more.

You said yourself that it has been Disney's marketing campaigns that talked up the "magic" and "characters". To me this means exactly what I originally stated - Disney IS about magic and characters. Attendance is up, profits are up, therefore we will only be seeing more of the same in the future.

I still think Disney has that unique experience that you can't get anywhere else. I have been to many places and never found one like WDW. I remember going there in the early 80's and calling it a "magical" place.

In contrast to many of the 'haters' out there i thought i would start a post to see who actually likes the wand at spaceship earth.I think it is a nice touch and would like to hear any other positive comment's people have.

I like it and don't think it's all that out of character for the park icon. It IS Epcot after all. I sure don't feel it is gaudy in any sense.

Of course, I liked the castle cake also (but only because it was temporary). Sadly, I know I seem to be in the minority of that one.

Speaking of, has anyone seen in the DTD Christmas store the castle decorated with Christmas candy decor? I would love to see them decorate the real castle like that just one holiday season!

Disney has built itself around the "magic" of all of their parks. Each park does indeed have it's own unique theme and that is what creates part of that magical feel. Disney is about "characters" and "magic", therefore we will see them in the parks.

My thoughts EXACTLY....:sohappy:

If it was a different font and a different color scheme, I think it might be ok. Look at the SSE postshow work and the fonts used and the colors. That's all "Epcot Future World" style to me. The current wand looks out of place.

I think that he's referring to the "Walt Disney World is for Princesses!" feel of the ad campaigns from the mid-90s through the 50th Celebration. Many of the advertisements only showed kids playing with Mickey Mouse and little girls hugging Cinderella. The ads were sweet, but gave many people the wrong impression of WDW's full offerings.

There's no reason not to market WDW one way in travel and upscale magazines, and another way in general advertising. It's called "Appealing to Your Target Audience." With Epcot, golf courses, and spas, WDW has the potential to appeal to more than just families with toddlers.

Many people observe that the wand destroys the carefully designed Epcot experience, which celebrates the magic of the real world, not fairy tales.

Ithink a lot of people are missing the point of this thread:brick: ... this is a thread for comments from people who like the wand and wish to express that.
not meaning to diss the haters out there as everyone is entitled to their opinion (not for me to say who is right) but if you only have negative things to say about the wand then go post somewhere else or start another wand hate thread.
Rant over takes cover and waits for the backlash:shrug:

the wand is stupid, and the hat at mgm is stupid, leave epcots ball alone, and find another landmark for mgm.... i used to think the landmark for mgm was that big mickey shaped tower head that they used to show at the end of all the old disney channel shows that were filmed in mgm like mmc, what ever happened to that? i know it wasnt on mgms mainstreet but who cares tot is enough of a landmark for mgm....point is, wand and hat should find other places to be obnoxious

Well, if you're gonna post that, post it somewhere else because almost everybody on this website DESPISES the stupid wand.

I refer the Honorable poster to an answer I gave a moment ago.

but can you define the quantity associated with the term "almost everybody" or is it like your friends, made up?

Don't think Disney likes your rather large photo as a signature... :D

Neither do I... :lookaroun

Above all... it's not allowed on these forums, please read the rules...

Man, ouch! My post was actually meant to be a compliment, I like it when you join in wand debates. Kind of harsh. And as for the signature, I have already been notified of this and have proceeded to take off all the images from my posts and have apologized for not knowing.

FYI

Steve has tried to do this...

But the person simply doesn't get the message...

People have been banned for less... :(

Wow, this is the first time I really don't feel welcome on the forums.

I did get the message and am trying to make it right. I'll have to think twice about making a light joke next time.:(

In my opinion the carefully crafted themeing and spectacular blending of EPCOT Center was lost years before the wand came into being. The current Epcot is nothing like the original but it is not due to the wand. If people seriously feel that a wand over SSE destroys Epcot the answer is simple - Don't look at it!

It doesn't matter if people don't like the wand, it's there and that's that.
Those of us who like the wand can be happy that it's there and it'll be there for a while.
Those who don't like the wand...Oh well.
