After reading about the menu disaster at Ohana's, I cancelled my PS there for my dec trip :(

Any idea where to try now? I was thining the Wispering Canyon Cafe? It seems nearby and could have some good ambience?

Dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe? While its not my favorite type (BBQ) the food was good and the portions are huge (its all you care to eat). We love the WCC because the CMs really get into the spirit and drag you along with them. If you love BBQ then this is a good place to try. If you go there ask for extra straws and ketchup. :lookaroun

Wispering Canyons is great! The one time I had to wait I wasn't even too upset, it's a great place to check out. Beautiful grounds, you can follow the hot spring down to the lake through the pool. Take a walk up to the walkways overlooking the lobby, great view. There's even the sitting area over the entrance with the fireplace and rocking chair, nice place to chill for a while. Oh, make sure you ask for the ketchup.

I don't think you really needed to cancel your PS. The food is still really good (I just can't attest for the new dessert). But if you want to go ahead with that...I would check out Cape May Cafe or Trails End Buffeteria. They are both really good and offer very nice selections.

I have to second the recommendation for Boma, having been there on multiple trips, each time bringing along a group of WDW newbies, all of whom said it was one of the best places they'd eaten!

The atmosphere in the resort lobby and the Boma dining area is very impressive (as this isn't a low-rate resort, they spent some serious theming dollars here.)

It is a very diverse buffet meal, and the range of food is much more varied than you'd find at Ohana (just try and sample every delicious soup they offer, I dare you!) and they even offer coffee served in a proper coffee press, for the truly adventous caffeine lover! :D

I don't know that I would have cancelled 'Ohana although Whispering Canyon is good too. Their proposed menu change isn't going to stop us from going to 'Ohana.

I tried to cancel 'Ohana for Sept 29th to go elsewhere and there is NOTHING available, so I guess I'm stuck at 'Ohana. I'll try my best to enjoy it!

I don't think the menu changes sound extreme enough to warent a change. Infact I thought the shrimp would be better steamed instead of grilled.

Personally I am sad about the rice and pinapple, only because I am on a dairy and egg free diet due to my breast feed baby who is allgeric to them and can't eat the cheese potatos or bread pudding (but would like to. ) I will mention that when I make the ARD and see what they can do. ;)

We only tried Ohana's for the 1st time last trip, and we are going back. It was yummy. The things they changed weren't my favorite things anyway.

I wasn't as impressed with whispering Whispering Canyon and don't plan on going again. I do want to try Bomas. We are hoping to stay at AKL in Jan so we will be going there.

Boma @ Animal Kingdom Lodge---best environment, exceptional food, and as mentioned above, the carrot and ginger soup is hands down the best I have had--exceptional and kudos to Boma chefs :slurp: :slurp:

I'm with DisneyPhD - the chages aren't that great and I think I will like the shrimp better. It's possible that they have moved the shrimp off the grill due to shellfish allergies. I am going to definately miss the pineapple & carmel, but that wouldn't be a reason for me not to go there for all the other awesome food.

That is true, and a really good idea. My DN is allerigc to shellfish (but she loves it, oh well.) It isn't DD's allgery, but we are avoiding it just in case and cross contaimination can be a big problem. Just last night baby PhD got ahold of something, we don't know what and it really set of her allgery. I wish I knew what it was, I am fearful it is something new we don't know about. Oh well. It might of been that I feed her peaches in the bowl that her older sister often gets ceral and milk in. :hammer:

As good as the pineapple was I would rather have bread pudding. (if I could eat it.) More desset like. I am willing to bet if you really had a problem they might be able to find a pineapple for you. :lookaroun

I agree with skeeter! I HATE eating at buffets, but Boma's is so worth it! The desserts are FANTASTIC, and there is soooo much food to choose from. The soups are yummy, and if you are not into spicy food, or strange non-american food, they have mac and cheese and chicken fingers, etc. It is a great place for the family, and the view is nice.

Dang it, now I am hungry for zebra domes.....

I would definitely go for Boma's the food is excellent.

We were going to go to O'hana's in December for dinner, but not we are not. There wasn't much there I had liked to begin with, but now there is almost nothing and even though my friends eat all the other stuff, it makes no sense for me to go and pay that kind of money to eat cheesie potatoes and not be able to have shrimp since that is the only meat I like. All the other meats are totally overcooked for my taste.

I would definitely change my reservations after finding this out. Breadpudding is gross, give me the pineapple back it's far healthier even with the carmel sauce.

Just cancelled my 10-7-05 O'Hana's ADR. I am doing it more for the principle of it as there is no need to change something that is working! I am ticked about the shrimp thing as I only eat it, becuase the other meats are always way too undercooked for me. My wife is furious about the pineapple so we are headed to Concourse Steakhouse instead.

I agree!!! Where to go next is the question?? I wonder if any other restaurants are getting this kind of an overhaul or is O'Hanas the only one? Belle

Thats a good question.

When we were at the Yachtsman Steakhouse on August 25th there was a sign that said it was the first day of their new menu. We had never eaten there before so it really didn't matter to us and we had a great meal, but now I wonder what was replaced?

I dont know if that type of a meal (Ala Carte) would be the ones that i Am thinking of. I was referring more to a buffet/ all you care to eat type of meals as cutting out some of the more costly items and substituting lower end items. So in theory they are still giving you a choice of foods, just not as good on quality or variety perhaps? Belle
