With the breaking rumor that the TOT may be getting an Avengers or Guardians re-theme it is becoming apparent as to what Disney is doing. They are trying to compete directly with Universal park for park. One thing Disney has a surplus of now that they didn't when MGM opened was acquired brands. When MGM opened it was an actual workable studio themed in the style of old time Hollywood.

That is now gone. No more working studio and now, sadly, it looks like the Hollywood aspect is being abandoned as well. Why? Disney needed a place to put attractions based on their acquisitions. HS is going to be a hodge podge, catch-all park. They weren't going to compete with Uni by having a lame back lot tour and half day park. They need a place for Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones and future purchases to have attractions. HS just makes sense in this regard.

I was OK with this at first. But not at the expense of beloved classics like TOT, a true original that will be cheapened by a re-theme. And if we are re-theming and moving away from a working Hollywood studio then the next logical choices would be TGMR and RRC. TGMR could be anything so why force it into a new re-themed park. It's going to be something Marvel I'm sure. And look at RRC, Aerosmith is getting old and soon will not be relevant to the youth. We all assumed they would change it to a new band one day. But now I can see the music theme of it will probably be gone. Look for it to be re-themed as X_Men battle Magneto or something along those lines. It's coming folks.

The park will still be fun, it will be a blast actually and will be more than a one day park. But the charm will be gone. The theme will be gone. The Disney "Magic" will be gone. It's going to be a cash machine.

This line of thinking has me worried about the future of our beloved parks. What is next to fall? Cinderella? Think about it. In 50 years how many princess movies are we going to have? Cinderella won't resonate with the kids the same way Oswald doesn't resonate with us now. She'll be a classic, sure, but not a money maker. The times they are a changin'....

Mine Train is based off a movie made 80 years ago. I think the classics are safe.

Don't believe everything you read.
Kind of believe WDW1974. At the very least it is a strong and logical possibility...especially from a business stand point. These guys aren't here to ensure our classics stay just how we like them. They don't care what Disney was or what Walt intended. They want to turn a profit pure and simple. If they think they could make more money turning Cinderella Castle into Avengers Tower that is what's going to happen.

Problem with TOT is they have to pay CBS a licensing fee. Also, kids these days don't really know what Twilight Zone is. They do know MArvel however. Same goes for Aerosmith. Same goes for most of the movies in the Great Movie Ride.

No like, "No, you're wrong.", or No like Darth Vader: "NNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!"?
"No" like "not yet."

1. I'd still put the odds of a Guardians re-theme of Tower at less than 50%.
2. Star Wars has been in DHS almost since the beginning. If anything, it's far more appropriate now that Disney owns Lucas than it was in 1989.
3. DHS has always been a mishmash of IP. They were just better at hiding it before the internet and social media.
4. Disney isn't doing anything in response to Universal. Maybe they should learn from them in a few ways (construction time being one of them), but Disney views itself as insulated. "An ant has no quarrel with a boot."
5. Guardians is the only Marvel property that's even a candidate to appear at WDW, so Marvel can't explode like you expect it to.
6. Walt Disney Pictures released Toy Story in 1995 and every other Pixar feature, long before the Pixar acquisition in 2006. Pixar isn't acquired IP, it's always been Disney.
7. Name me a single Disney animated classic that wasn't an adaptation of pre-existing IP. There aren't any.

So, of the potential "IP invasion" you're talking about is Star Wars, which has always been a part of DHS; Pixar, which has always been Disney; and one Marvel attraction.

1. I hope so. Kind of gave me a fitful sleep last night.
2. Star Wars totally deserves a major presence. Also stays with the Hollywood movie theme.
3. It has always been a mish mash, but so much of the "Hollywood" aspect seems to be leaving. Backlot, Streets, etc. And that in itself is good cause those were bad and space hogs (oh god remember that band...), so I hope they are careful not to lose the charm. I mean look at Uni. It is themed very much like a city, but with attractions thrown into it.
4. Not so sure. They look at parks individually as competition. Fans tend to see it as a whole. And as a whole Walt Disney World is a boot to Universal's bug. But park to park HS is not a boot to the bug that is Uni Orlando
5. And since Marvel can't explode due to Uni licensing I hope they don't even start. There is not point show horning in one minor Marvel franchise.
6. Totally agree. I've always said this and really think differentiating "Pixar" isn't even necessary.
7. I'm sure there is one.... But that doesn't mean they won't get stale or old eventually and be replaced.

I agree.

I'd bet RNRC is rethemed before ToT.

There has been a rumour for a year or two that RnRC at Paris will get a Spiderman retheme. But of course at WDW they can't do that due to the fact the Universal won't give the rights up.
I think Marvel mini-lands in Paris WDStudios and DCA are almost certain though.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
This an early 2016 April Fools joke!! Not true. These types of rumors happen every year at this time. Like Cindy's Castle becoming Frozen Castle, Coke switching to Pepsi, etc. None of it is true. :banghead::facepalm::rolleyes:

And kids today probably didnt really know what Indiana Jones or Star Wars (before the latest movie came out) were. The Tower of Terror isnt catered to kids.

TOT still has too much of a draw and guests still love it. Even though TZ isnt on TV, kids still can see it on Netflicks and are aware of the more popular episodes, so its not totally extinct. IMHO even with Guardians being in Disneys pocket it will be a while before they take away TOT and replace it with a Guardians themed ride.

Shame they couldn't go with The Outer Limits..It aired in 1963-65 on ABC...Then they retried to revive the show in the mid 90's...But, here's where it got weird...The show...DID Have a ride...For anyone who has gone during the Paramount Park years at Kings Island & Dominion you might have recalled a Spaghetti bowl LIM Coaster (Similar to RnRC) themed to the show.

After a few years Paramount decided not to pick up the show's tie-in licence and simply left it as...

So, what would be so difficult to still use the (I hate to say this) Plot that was used in the Made for TV Movie that doesn't reflect The Twilight Zone and Simply just called it...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Universal acquire the US theme park rights from Marvel in perpetuity? Would that not require Disney to right a very large check to get back the rights?

From what I understand Universal Orlando has the rights to the Marvel characters they currently have in the parks forever. But they now are paying licensing fees to Disney through Marvel. However, this is only for WDW. Additionally Disney can use characters that Universal has not. So Disney can use Guardians of the Galaxy, some of the Avengers, and other minor characters. So we could see "The Punisher's Carousel" in the Magic Kingdom if Disney ever decided to re-theme that.
