Several valid points were made in this thread, I'll try to address all of them:

Q. Why did I post this thread?
A. Because I knew the reaction, and I have seen these threads in the past. Wanted to do this like adults, and not get people banned.. We can have friendly conversation, can't we? So far, everything I've read has been intelligent conversation.

Q. Did you realize what you were typing when you titled the thread?
A. No, accidental humor at it's finest.

Q. Concerned about her feet/back/ankles getting sore?
A. Backpack, change shoes before riding.

Q. An INCH are you NUTS?
A. She needs a quarter inch. And like all almost 4 year olds, if she would pay attention and stand 'tall' , so to speak, she'd probably be fine anyway.

Q. Worried about her safety on the rides?
A. Yes, I am deeply concerned EVERY time she , or my other 2 daughters ride any attraction. Trust in the fact that she won't be jumping out of the taxi on toon town with me there. ( I know that ride is in DL, just an analogy)

Q. Do you design restraints, do you have knowledge about this being safe?
A. No, I do not design restraints, common sense dictates that if the tollerance on any ride is 1/4 inch, I don't want ANY person in my family on it.

Q. Do you know that you are a bad parent, and should tell your children to wait?
A. Call me what you will, lets keep this civil so we can intelligently discuss this though.. If she was hopping on the ride in stelleto's (sp?) I'd agree with you.. But again, she's a crooked hair away from the limit

Q: Aren't you teaching your child a bad lesson about cheating the system?
A: She is oblivious to the lifts, they are simple walmart shoe inserts that are meant to increase foot comfort, not to jack your up like a buick.

Finally, I'd say everyone, she'll be fine, she'll be safe. I could have bypassed the shoe inserts and went for a pair of boots (she wears them anyway) and made the distance up, but whats the difference?

I invite replies, but, lets keep it civil, too many threads like these end poorly..

you are entirely out of place in flaming him.
But it is your place to tell us this? Interesting.

Lighten up! The guy *asked us* to flame him. Frankly, I'd bet even money that this is a troll, but that doesn't mean I can't take time out of my busy night to get out the asbestos underwear and the flamethrower.

I speak my mind... and if I feel someone is out of place, I will say it. Even if it makes me a hypocrite since I'm out of place.

I've done much worse and much better things in my life, and this will ultimately be inconsequential.

Now onto another cerveza, you want?

Nah, I'm on the clock. Well, not on the clock, as I'm unclocked, but you get my drift.

hardcard: the one qeustion you didn't address is the one of modeling behavior that you may later regret.

Oh, and I'm also still wondering why 1/4 inch is okay but two inches isn't, and I'm not much swayed by your "it must be so" argument. What's the magic tolerance limit? And, how do you know what it is? Is a half-inch too far? Three-quarters?

Presumably, any good engineer would include some tolerances. Of course, sometimes the engineer is wrong (see Levy's excellent book "Why Buildings Fall Down: Why Structures Fail), but in any event we don't really know what those tolerances are. In particular, *you* don't know what those tolerances are.

(I still think the behavior modeling argument is more convincing though.)

I really hope you get caught doing this. I work in the biz (no, not for Disney, and not even in Florida) and I can tell you that this is at the least, poor judgement. Will she be ok, 99.999999% of the time yes, but the hieght restrictions must be followed to a T, because there enlies the slippery slope. If 1/4 an inch is ok, then an inch probably is, then 3 inches is, then hell, a whole foot, it's all good. Catch my drift?

Ok, additionally responses:

Q: Where does it end? Why is a 1/4 inch ok but an inch isn't?
A: AH HA! The catch 22 question! Well, there is no real answer to this one but I'll try. why is 1/4 inch ok? Well, like I said before, on a non-foggy day, when the moon is right, she's EXACTLY 40 inches in height (give or take a hair). My additional of a shoe insert basically pushed her to 40 1/4 inches in height, I just want a little insurance against the measuring stick. Not 'backpeddling' here.. like I said, I could have done the same by putting her in boots. Again, if she wasn't a 4 year old, she'd nail it by standing true and straight.. more than likely, the lifts will be pointless for my application anyhow. Trust me, if this were a case of her being an inch too short for the attraction, or even a half. it would be a no go.

For example, my nearly 2 year old is roughly 32 inches, I'm not packing in 6 inches to get her on Kali or Goofy Barnstormer, that would be idiocy.

Q: Behavior modelingmy child, teaching her it's ok to skirt the system?
A: She's oblivious to the inserts, and their intent.

Q: Are you a troll?
A: No, been here for years. Posted many of times. Although I did hear something recently about a 5th gate and a potter ride.

I think thats everything so far, eh?

And I'm the fourth pervert that thought this was going to be a sexual thread resulting to someone being banned.

So many accidents happen to children at parks like these due to poor parental choices. Many safety issues are pushed aside because parents don't want to follow the rules. An inch may seem like a small measurement to add to a kids height but weigh in the percentage of risk of an accident, that you just doubled, just to put your kid on a ride. Read for yourself about some of these things happening all around us. http://www.rideaccidents.com

Hey! No fair editing your post to answer my question pre-facto!

Just remember: little pitchers have big ears. I know my kids are a lot less oblivious about stuff than I think.

In any event, you're doomed anyway. The mere fact that you've decided that this is okay means you've probably modeled this behavior for your daughter hundreds of ways just this month alone. I'm sure she's bright and will catch on quickly.

Just keep telling yourself: boys, drinking, and cars. :goodnevil

Man, you and me both. And I've only got one daughter.

But, I've also got a son, and that may actually be worse. He's a constant source of chaos and destruction.

You do understand that he height thing isnt just for physical safety. Alot goes into the height requirement, its kinda like the rating system for tv or movies. Yes most amusement parks use the measurement for physical safety but disney also uses it for the intensity level of chirldren. One recent example was stitch, the ride system didnt change from AE, however after the ride was open for a few weeks the height requirement was raised a inch if I remember correctly and then lowered back down. This was done from what I understand was because small kids were getting the crap scared out of them.

You need to post more often - this thread has been entirely entertaining! :) As for all that stuff you listed above - as a new mom of 1 - and a gal that was a teenager, not a terribly long time ago... you've most likely got alot less to worry about than you think... :D Hope y'all have fun in the parks, sounds like you're going to have a blast!
