I found a hidden gem in Tomorrowland (Alien Encounter related)

While I was getting on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, I noticed a newspaper stand to the right of the entrance of the TTA. Inside the stand was a paper with the headline "XS Tech Comes To Earth" It even listed the name of the character Jeffrey Jones played in Alien Encounter (I forgot the character name though.) It brought a tear to my eye. I loved Alien Encounter.

Chairman Clench was his name.

I really miss alien encounter too. It had a great story, great special effects. Then it was replaced by the sub-par Stitch. Such a shame.

Chairman Clench. That was it. May AE live on forever :(

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully it will still be there on my trip in July. That would probably be the highlight of the trip. Of course I'm not expecting it to still be there, but it would be nice.

Ah yes. I just discovered the robot/newspaper stand on our last trip, and I discovered that he talks! There is a photo of he and I in my last photo post.

Still can't understand why they'd get rid of it to put Stitch in its place.
Is nothing worth keeping around anymore?

AE was not a typical Disney attraction. As such, it created complaints. Thus, it was removed.

Yeah, Stitch! was just disappointing and initially I had really been looking forward to it. I loved AE but can recognize it was too "scary" for the family-friendly Magic Kingdom. My favorite was S.I.R. That A3 was so friggin' awesome. I mentioned him specifically in my interview with WDI. My interviewer and I spoke for some time about him.

I'm just this topic has been talked to death on the boards, but I'm not sure how I like the Fantasyland-ization of Tomorrowland. I really really liked the Discoveryland concept of "past visions of the future". It was a realistic way to solve the complexities of Tomorrowland but remain true to its spirit. I thought there was a lot of potential in that that we didn't explore.

And early buzz on Space Mountain: Mission 2 in Paris seems to favor the original attraction. I loved that Space Mountain (and my friend loved the homage to Rocketeer), I'll be curious to see what the new one is all about.

'characterizing' Tomorrowland is creeping into a big joke. Herbie will probably become the center plot for the speedway soon. (and why did AE have to go while the speedway still remains?) talk about a huge piece of prime real estate in 'Tomorrowland'.

And before 1977 Space Mountain wasn't either. But now rollercoasters are becoming a common place item in Disney parks. I have been a member of many forums in the last 10 years or so and never heard many complaints about Alien Encounter. Stitch on the other hand...

Ever heard of a little ride called the Matterhorn? And there aren't many complaints about Space Mountain.

The forums have nothing to do with it. Who cares? No one. The complaints were at City Hall in MK, with parents complaining it scared their children. If you try to deny these happened all the time, you are just going to look bad.

Not to argue, but didn't it have a "Warning" on it about this might scare children... I would think it would have. That's like someone letting there child go to an R rated movie and then getting made when they cruse or something. It's not a big deal, I don't really miss it, and with all the new attractions coming, I think we will do just fine, but in all reality, Stitch is doing great! I hate to say it but, the lines are almsot always over 60 mins when Im there. Maybe just a "new" fasination, we will see, only time will tell.

I too miss AE...I think it was an original ride that stood out in Tomorrowland. I haven't been on it yet but everyone I know whose been on the new Stitch version says its doesn't compare. I'm sad to see a stepbackwards...

Because those very same people didn't pay attention to the signs...

AE should have been updated but never removed.

I hear ya, but It would have done better at MGM. At MK, do you see any other rides based on non Disney films? At MGM it would have worked bit better. just my thought.

You know that upcoming Pixar movie, Cars? The Indy Speedway?....

See where I am getting at?

And it was too bad they removed AE. I was lucky enough to go on it the last summer it was in operation (2003). I was scared to go on it when it first opened way back when. I still remember the lines were very long for the attraction.

It had warnings everywhere - outside, before the queue, on the park maps, the promo video was made to look scary.. it was even called The ExtraTERROR Alien Encounter...

If parents were dumb enough to ignore all this they only have themselves to blame. I`ve said it before: The vocal minority against the silent majority.

I work in a similar industry and yes, no matter how many signs, warnings, information, etc. that you provide, too many people disregard them and complain loudly afterwards that they should have been "told about it." It is a minority of guests, but sadly a very vocal minority that is too ignorant to figure things out on their own and learn personal responsibility.
