I don't like or dislike the hat although when I first saw it in 2002 I was a bit like what the hell it's a giant hat (bearing in mind I was ten) and it sorta confused me as I knew the water tower was the 'trademark' for MGM and it made me think why have they put a giant hat infront of that nice building (as I didn't know it was the great movie ride as I had never been on it) I think it partially ruined the whole feels of the area when you first walk in to MGM. I think it will grow on me when we go back in October. I find it slightly worrying that I find the prospect of a giant flashing hat more exciting now than I did when I was ten  lol. TBH I don't care what they put in the parks to a certain extent as when I will be there that will be all that matters

I agree that it does not represent Main Street. However, it is clearly visible from there as it is sort of at the end of main street with a little bit of separation. I do think that the hat is not that far off. It represents a piece of nostalgia from a diney movie made in 1940.

I agree that the Studios is the place for the hat and like I said in my original post I don't even mind the hat I just wish it didn't block the theatre. I just thought it was a shame to have such a beautiful building as the theatre and the only way you can see it is to walk around the hat.

Gotcha. I guess the reason that it does not bother me so much is because the theatre never really did it for me. It just did not seem to have that grand feeling that the other three have.

I don't really have a problem with the hat. Every park needs and icon so they made one and came up with the hat. Plus it has to do with Mickey so I'm fine with it.

I understand...I find the theatre actually tends to look "grander" in photos than in real life. I find my photos of it tend to be at a low angle making it appear larger.

The hat actually doesn't seem like as much as a photo op to me...I know...I know....how can a huge a$$ hat not be a photo op...but I like to photograph the architecture of the parks and I've never gotten a photo of the hat where it didn't just look like a tourist spot. I think because it's so open on the bottem that I tend to always see pins and people in yellow ponchos or black socks and sandles and that's not the look I wanted.

I have a set of photos blown up of the castle, SSE, the Tree of Life and the theatre but the hat won't work with the set the way the theatre does so I won't be adding to my personal "park icon" collection

EDIT** Had to correct spelling...it's not called the Tree of Lice!! :D
