I can't stand booking fast passes months in advance!!!!!

I do not mind this system the only PAIN IN MY BUTT is that my DD is around 35'' right now with shoes. I was hoping to get her in the Mine Train and other 37'' rides, we have 7 months of growing. What if she is just under 37'' at FP booking time, but then I miss out on the FP because she is just tall enough? Mine train having a fp left is very unlikely, we will see That why I think its a pain.

We personally love Fastpass+, but that's because we've learned how to make best use of it over the last year.
But when we think back to those ever so magical first visits to WDW, we can't help think that this definitely knocks that ability to explore and enjoy almost completely on the head!
No first timer can be prepared for what's in store unless they've done a ton of research!
Can you imagine turning up at a theme park and realizing that one of the restaurants your kids wanted to visit was booked 6 months ago?
That would suck but I wouldn't try any new vacation without researching first. I personally like FP+ as I am able to get more FPs now than with the old system (thanks to the Extra FP+s). I also find it quite convenient that, now that I know where all of the centralized FP+ kiosks are, I can easily get my extra FP+s without having to walk all the way to the ride I want. The only way to make it better would be to allow the Extra FP+s to be made with the app. Not sure why they don't have this functionality yet. They can verify that you are in the correct park through the smart phone and it would allow them to cut staff at the kiosks. Why not?

Book it 60 days out and cancel and switch to something else if she isn't 38". By the way, Mine Train is 38", not 37". It would be pretty incredible for her to grow 3 inches in 7 months, but anything is possible.

If a child cannot meet a height requirement they won't lose out on their FP. The host at the attraction entrance will cancel it out so you can make a different choice for them.

We have had great success getting FP+ in the MK in the evening while in the park, as long as we don't want Mine Train.
That's the issue - if you don't want the headliners then you can easily pick up FP+ for the minor attractions. However, if you're Hopping then its better to book the FP+ for the headliners at the second park and make sure you're at the first park very early for the stand by lines

That is all. Needed to scream that. My wife doesn't understand. Absolutely insane that you have to book rides and meet and greets.....

Totally understand this. I've made our FP picks for April, but when we actually go on our trip we may or may not use them. Who knows if we will want to go to the Haunted Mansion on Wednesday???? We might be somewhere else, or in another park. Might just wing it....

Using the old Legacy™ system:

1) Walk up to ride FP machine area
2) Walk up to available machine
3) Insert ticket-receive FP(repeat x 4)
4) Walk away with an almost evil grin at the ease of the process

Using the new and improved Fastpass Plus™:

1) Walk up to FP+ LINE
2) Look at the 10+ people in front of me and wonder is going on here?
3) Watch as frustrated CM's try to explain to each group of bewildered guests how the process works
4) Finally walk up to available kiosk 10 minutes later(no exaggeration)
5) Make selection in a matter of seconds
6) Walk away with an actual evil smirk wishing I had sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads

Sure, the planning of the initial three FP's might be semi painless, but the planning is getting out of hand.

Please note that the proceeding dramatization is purely based on the actual events encountered by Draybook. Your personal experience may vary.

Just got back from a nine day trip to Walt Disney World. Did not book any FastPass+ in advance. Booked FastPass+ the night before or on fly at the park the day of. Got all the rides our group wanted including Mine Train, Space Mountain, Meet and Greets, etc. What we did was go in the morning and do stand-by, used three FastPass+ in the afternoon, and back to stand-by in the evening. Crowds where large due to the Princess Half Marathon, a dance team competition, and early spring breakers; but overall FastPass+ worked great. Doing another trip in March and have booked all of my FastPass+ already. So I guess one has the choice of doing it either way.

Actually FP+ was malfunctioning for a portion of your trip. Maybe that's why it was so easy. You didn't even NEED FP+... you could get on any ride, any time, and get the green Mickey at several parks for a few days. Didn't anyone tell you? It's true...

This would not have effected what I was doing. I only went into the FastPass+ line on rides where I had booked a FastPass+ on my smart phone.

You've all brought up great points. Here is my issue with the FP+ system so far, maybe because I am a purist or simply because I like to wing it when I am down in WDW. Couple of things....

1. FP is invaluable to successfully seeing everything you want to see while down in the world. No question about it. I don't care if it's paper or the new Magic Bands. (Personally I LOVE the idea, I say idea since I haven't physically used it yet, that the MB is tickets, credit card, room key, FP. Awesome!

2. When I goto Disney I, like many old salts of the MK, follow a certain path to avoid crowds as best as you can. It's been a tried and true method for years and I have seen many post the same here. It works. FP is still needed, but I can't tell what time I will be in Adventureland 30 days from now. Make sense?

3. I have no idea what parks I will be in on a specific day. I know for a fact that we will be in MK on Day 1. This is tradition for me, and to my little ones and wife who have never been to Disney, MK is Disney. Epcot, DHS, AK are not "Disney" if you catch my meaning. That aside, I don't know what I want to do on Day 2 today. Maybe MK was a lot of fun on DAY 1 and we decide let's do it again for Day 2 but the FP are booked since we should have booked that 60 days prior.

4. I know that passes can be changed, but if slots are full that's that. So indecisiveness is penalized? Again, we will see when we are down there in in less than 30 days.

5. Thankfully I know Disney and the main 4 parks. Someone who has never been to the world would have no idea where to begin and what to book. Imagine how many would book FP for COP? Or a FP for Sunny Eclipse? ( I know neither have FP, just making a point.

I understand that I haven't used it 100% as some of pointed out but I can say that so far, I don't like it. No hatred, just don't like. We still have time for it to wow me.
