I can't be the only one who's wanted to do this (Horizons related)

I'm still thinking about it....

Making this craft a reality:

Now I know that the craft as it is probably wouldn't work without some larger "fans" for hovering, but I think it would be possible with light enough materials.

I mean that weirdo Paul Moller did something similar:

Thoughts?

Well, the attraction has always given an important golden rule..
"If you can dream it. You can do it!" I say give it a go and update us with pictures when you start building it. Good luck!

I think Horizons is one of those attractions that people remember as being better than it actually was. If it were still around today, the same people on these boards who are always paying tribute to it would be screaming for Disney to please replace it with something not so dated.

All I can say is if you can imagine it then you can do it. So if you have a plan go for it and build us a great new ride or something.

Right, with all of those people screaming to replace COP, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, etc.

Couple of construction hints....

Bigger.... although not too big....

At some point, for it to fly like a plane, thrust needs to propel forwards, not just up....

Center of Gravity, it's wicked important.

All things considered, scale models rock, and are easier/faster/cheaper to build.

(and as a bonus, you don't die if they crash, have handling issues, or randomly flip over for no apparent reason)

It is easier to sculpt styrofoam, than create a fiberglass shell on a mold.

:animwink:

The question regarding forward thrust, there's a few ways to do that..the fans could have a forward/aft tilt to them, or just have rudders to point the airflow.

Yes, a scale model would be nice.

This isn't something I'm planning to do right away...I'm working on a new business, but maybe in my leisure time after I make my millions :drevil:
