but now that I look back on it from last weekend I really did enjoy it...not as much as our beloved Wilderness Lodge Villas but did enjoy...I just now know
that if we do stay here again it will NOT be in the PADDOCK building

Here are some of the resort pics we took during our Expedition Everest get
away long weekend

I think SSR is a lot like OWK. Location Location Location. It does mater.

I don't know why anyone would want to be in the padocks. For that mater I don't know why anywone would want to be in the new buildings they currrenlty working on either.

We were in the Springs. I thought it was a nice locaiton.

The one time we stayed at OKW we had a very poor location. OKW is my least favorite DVC resort. That might have something to do with it.

We had a poor location at VWL also. All the way at the end of the hall. There are less poor locations at VWL then there are at other places though.

we just simply didnt know what are to stay in ....no research was done
It was a spur of the moment thing to travel down there from massachusetts
because they were doing the everst preview....thank god we were only there for 3 days...if we were there longer we would prob have requested a different room after where we were placed. I personally dont think disney should have put a building there ....the traffic noise and the eyesore pink building were a magical show stopper for the disney experience...at times it felt like we were just staying at a hotel in the city.....we tried to freeze it out and tried not to let it get to us but when its there, its there. especially the main view was the rcfd building...

The program i use it Adobe photoshop album v2.0..its a pretty old version,I dont know if there is a recent one.....i use the web photo gallery option to create the album....very very easy

.....but you were good to try someplace different. It's funny the way you like your home resort. We've been members at Old Key West since 1992; have tried all of the other DVC resorts and prefer OKW time after time. We wonder why people like the other resorts but we've come to understand how individual the experience is and how people take "ownership" in their home resort. Great photos, by the way!

It's more what you're looking for...if you want it to be quite and away from everything...you'll want South Pointe....if you want to be closer to things like the store or Olivia's you want Peninsular Road. We've been on Miller's Road, Old Turtle Pond and Peninsular....all decent locations. South Pointe would be a little too far away for me.

We had a great time at Saratoga. We were in Congress Park. It was only a 7 minute walk to DTD. We had a view of the lake and DTD. It was a little far from the carriage house but we rented a car so it didn't really matter.

Out of curiousity - would any of you consider buying into the SSR - or just buying points off someone at one of the other resorts?

We have stayed at Congress Park for a week during the first week of Jan 2006, and we stayed for 2 nights at The Paddock for the DVC Preview weekend. Sure, the view and location are vastly different between the two. Our room at Congress Park looked over the water and right at Pleasure Island, and it was a lovely walk to Downtown Disney.

The Paddock is just in the middle of nowhere with no good view of anything. However, when we stayed there just for that 2 nights, it wasn't a big deal since we were not at our resort most of the time. I think if we were to stay longer, we would have requested another location.

We bought into Saratoga. We liked it, second favorite resort after AKL.

But anyway it doesn't matter which resort is your home resort. You can stay at any of the DVC resorts. The only advantage is you home resort you can book 11 months in advance instead of 7, i think, for the other DVC. Plus for Saratoga you get more years to use it. I not sure about the length but I think you have it for 10 years more than the other DVC resorts.

We were just at Paddock room 5812. We found it to be very quiet and it didn't seem to far away from the main buildings. We looked out over water and could see the top of dtd from our balcony. We are very happy with our purchase at SSR, looking to buy more points. We don't seem to have enough for what we want to do.

Congress Park is my favorite.

Then the Springs.

And I do not really like the Paddock as well, if it is one of the buildings just off the side of the road. That building is also too close to the cast member building, so I would feel like I was at work if I stayed there.

I like OKW and DSSR because they are not smack dab in the middle of the parks, they provide more of a retreat.

Our first, and only, DVC stay so far was in the Springs building, right across from the new construction. Other than some obvious noise from hammers/saws, it was the quietest room we've ever had. And looking out at the fountain was very peaceful, especially in the morning.

We stayed at SSR from 3-11DEC05. To tell you the truth, I was not looking forward to it. I've always been a BCV kind of guy and my wife wanted to stay at VWL. We could not get a reservation at either one. We then tried for OKW and struck out, so we "settled on" SSR. Once we got there, it did not take us long to figure out how nice of a resort it is. We truly enjoyed our stay. We found the buses to be very efficient. Although the pool was no StormAlong Bay, we enjoyed it considerably. The walk to DTD was only 5-10 minutes and was enjoyable. All in all, we loved it there and would not consider it a let down to stay there apposed to our other favorites.

Can any of you tell me if they have an internal bus system just for this resort to shuttle people around the resort? I have seen something about this from other posts, but can not confirm it.

Also, if a person stays at Congress Park, how long is the walk back to the Carriage House and Artists Palette?

There is an internal bus. Also, all buses stop at the Paddock first then cycle around to the Springs which is right by the main building and feature pool. The walk from Congress Park is about 5 minutes (so I'm told) we've always stayed in the Springs. The only problem we ever had with the Springs was that the morning buses occasionally were full by the time they got around to us. This only happened once though.

Thank-you very much. It was kind of going to be a bummer if there wasn't a bus to help get people around the resort other than the ones that also went to the parks. Couldn't imagine hauling luggage on the buses that went to the parks. They get very crowded sometimes.

We were at the Paddocks last year and did not enjoy the location. It would have been much better if we had a room overlooking DTD, but as we found out that is difficult to get. We also discovered the 11 month window is very important to get the resort of choice. We tried reserving BCV and BW 7 months out (off season) but was only placed on a waiting list. We didn't realize how big SSR was going to be at the time we purchased.

Hind sight, we would have purchased at the BC. We like their pool and location much better.

Our only concern now is the announcement of the next DVC. If it is at a premium location, I am concerned that SSR will be difficult to sell.

If you don't have a car the bellmen can help you bring your luggage to your room.
