Hydrations belts

Do any of you use hydration belts for longer runs? Which one?

Thanks!

I have an Ultimate Direction - Access. I don't like it. It's the whole sloshing around thing. The bottle and belt say right where you put them, but whatever is in the bottle sloshes around.

I'll either run by water sources, cache water along the way, or use my car as a base point. Park in the middle of the park, run 2 miles one way, turn around, drink at tthe 4 mile point at my car, run 2 miles the other way, etc etc.

Hey Steve.

I lucked out. I went to Academy Sports last year on a major budget since it was in my 11 months of unemployment and got the cheapest thing I could find. It was an Ironman brand, (2) 10oz water pod with pouch. It was $19 and I take it on EVERY run over 3 miles. I like to know I have even a little water if I need it. I have found that the belt doesnt slip with the tightness. I am pleased with that.

Here is the link to it. http://www.amazon.com/Ironman-10-Ounce-Flask-Hydration-Yellow/dp/B002DVYH2G

Hope your running is taking off.

I haven't gotten into any of the belts. My current solution is an 18-oz. Nathan water bottle with an adjustable hand clasp. I had tried carrying other bottles with me, and had problems with sloshing, awkward grip, etc. The bottle I use now feels very natural, the shape seems to keep the motion of the fluid from bothering me, and the clasp prevents me from having to grip too hard. I really like it.

I say it's a "current" solution because that amount of fluid does very well for my current long runs (near half marathon distance), but I'm going to need to figure out some way to pack more fluid as my distance keeps climbing. I'm still trying to figure all this out.

For any run longer than 1 hour, I use the belt that can hold the 4 small bottles - can't recall the brand. However, I usually only fill up 2 of the bottles and place them towards the back becuase the front slots aren't as comfortable. If I will need more than 2 bottles, I'll plant more somewhere that I can exchange them en route. I find the belt very comfortable and the pocket in the back is handy for a key or $$ or ID.

Currently I use a 2 bottle Fuel Belt (Helium). I used to love it, but the bouncing around it does, sometimes, tends to turn my stomache and make me queezy. But it keeps the fluids handy.

I'll be upgrading to a Nathan HPL vest for my 20+mile runs. I'll see how that works out compared to the belt.

I had used a 4 bottle Fuel Belt original for 3 or 4 years, but the bottles finally died and the belt didn't fit any more. So I got a 4 bottle Fuel Belt Helium. Works fine for me. My big issue is that I am usually right on the size break, so one starts off too small, but gets a bit better over time, and the other starts off ok, but then gets big over time.

Personally, I don't like using Camelbak type systems for running. I have tried it a few times, and those slosh around way too much for me. Plus, most of the belt systems come with a little pouch, or you can easily attach one.

The one possible downside to the Fuel Belt is that the bottle holder are permanent. Some of the other systems you can move/remove the extra holders and even add more if needed. I don't have an issue just taking the un-needed bottles off, but some may be irritated.

Ah, Fuel Belt just came out with removeable bottle/flask holders. Good idea, but I'm still going to get the Nathan vest. Apparently it only weighs 6oz...that's half the weight of one of my shoes...I'd love to see how they did that.

I use a 3 bottle (8oz each) amphipod belt...you can move the bottles around to reposition and the velcro belt let's you get a good fit...never used a fuel belt by looked into them and look like they bounce to me and the bottles aren't adjustable.

I liked what I saw on the site, thanks for that. The only reason I stayed away from that brand was a few people had told me they had trouble with the bottles leaking. Is that an issue with yours?

But, because of the ultramarathon in MArch and my long runs, I'm gonna pick up a Nathan race vest instead. Also, my Fuel Belt is starting to annoy me.

I do have one of the bottles after a lot of use that leaks slightly, and I only know as on the days I'm using like fruit punch gatorade I'll see some red on my shirt, othewise just have to screw the top on tight and make sure to push the cap down after drinking...they snap in pretty easy while running as well, I just place a little below the mount, push in and slide up for the click in. Release is just a squeeze...the pouch you can get with it is great for gels etc...

I used a bladder type from RR sports a years ago that sat on the lower back I loved, but it was a pain to keep clean and after it started to show mold I axed using that.

I like the clip design on the Amphipod better than my Fuel Belt. Over time the elastic harness that holds the water flasks stretches out and does not hug the flasks as well. Can't wait to get the Nathan vest though. I'll post a "review" of it when I get it and try it out on a long run.

I havent had that happen on that el cheapo belt I bought. Maybe it is so cheap, they didnt put any fancy elastic on the pouches. Ill have to check.

Jed Clampett strikes again! I know right? For the amount one pays for top-of-the-line stuff, it should out last the shelf-life of a twinkie.
I really can't wait to get my hands on the Nathan vest though. My belt I think is inducing queeziness as of late.

Well, the vest weighs 6 ounces before you fill it. When you put 2 liters of liquid in it, it will feel insanely heavy on your back. Let us know how it works. I've tried on so many waist and back packs, and they all have a little slosh or bounce to them. Add that to the water weight, and they just aren't worth it.
