Well almost two months after hurricane season started we finally have a storm..

Alex is on his way to the carolinas. And it looks like something else might form near the carribean and such. The storm tracker in me says must keep eye on that one.

Only a few more days till I travel home from what has been a wonderful summer here in Florida and WDW. Hope no storms ruin it.

My storm tracker says watch out for everyone but me... Tampa has had good luck with not getting hit by major or sub major storms....

We leave this Friday for WDW and I hope a storm does not put a damper on our vacation. Last year while we were there, a tropical wave moved across central Florida and it created a very windy and rainy day for us while at Epcot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we won't see more than the typical scattered storms in the afternoon. :lookaroun

Florida is due for a MAJOR hurricane. We haven't had a really bad one since Andrew in '92.

Only tropical storm I remember ever causing any rain and wind in Florida was back in '99 when Universal's IOA opened. Floyd I think it was called. Made for an interesting Halloween Horror Night!!!!!! Of course, ILUVTHEMOUSE, I do live in South Florida and it might not have even done anything down here, and thats why I don't remember it. Was it in August? I do remember a lot of flooding in Ft. Lauderdale and they closed a bunch of roads, including the highway to get to Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.

I forget when that tropical storm/depression/wave was in the gulf got killed and went over I-4 corridor.....

Oh and at least it was only windy and slightly rainy.. that wave could have been worse...

(Florida isn't due for a huge huricane for a few more years....)

This was not a tropical storm but a tropical wave. At least that's what the weather man called it. And yes it was in August last year. I do remember that some parts of Oceola Parkway was flooded due to the rains. Being an Ohioan, I'm not sure what the difference is between a tropical storm and a tropical wave. If I ever experienced a tropical storm, I bet I would find out real quick (lol).

It all depends on pressure and wind speed.

It goes from a Tropical Wave, to a Tropical Depression (neither are named, just numbered), then Storms, then Hurricanes (Categories 1-5, 5 most intense).

The horrible part is that we've had hurricanes as late as November!!! Please let it be a short season this year...we've had enough!!! :(
