Disney is already telling people to stay in their rooms.

And again, Disney and Universal not closing their parks until 5:00 is in opposition to the position of local officials who were telling people to already be sheltered and ready at that exact same time.

In Orange County, they were saying to be sheltered by 6pm. I was out getting food until 8, at 535 near 192, and the weather was not bad -- rain on and off and winds gusting around 20 mph.

Orange County has instituted a curfew from now until 7 am Saturday. Nobody is supposed to leave whatever building they are in.

The curfew will he be hard to enforce. The storm is predicted to be out of here by 6pm Friday. I suspect, Friday evening people will be on the roads.

The prefered time was 5:00 with 6:00 being the latest. That conditions did not escalate as quickly as originally expected is exactly why continued communication is so important, even if it is just reiterating what everyone else is saying.

Publix was closed by 6:30. So was Walmart and virtually every restaurant and convenience store. Wawa and Racetrac were open, as well as one Chinese take out and one Halal takeout place that I now know makes excellent schwarma, Philly cheesesteaks, hot wings, and a Turkish style chicken sandwich. Seriously, there was almost nowhere to buy food. We had some in our room, but wanted to save it for tomorrow.

Idk. I live here and many times when we have horrible weather, the apps real time information shows sun.

The announcement pretty much made clear that they have no intention of trying to enforce anything, and that they hope to life it early as well. But they're hoping people will listen and stay off the roads to make things easier for emergency personnel.

So somehow Disney should have done better? Disney is somehow supposed to predict the weather even better than the National Weather service? There is no way they could win in this situation. They told Guests to keep themselves informed as well as offered operational updates as soon as they had as accurate as information as possible. Even this very minute, they don't even think the storm will impact Orlando as much as initially thought. Disney did everything they could as far as monitoring the weather. I swear, next time someone runs out of gas in their own car on property someone is going to complain that Disney didn't warn them of the possibility. If Disney had announced earlier they were closing then honestly tell me people wouldn't have complained and moaned about this. Disney is keeping their Guests and their Cast safe and that trumps any other decision they could make. People honestly feel like Disney should have just started informing people a week ago "hey there is a hurricane". These threads and bloggers are a joke and a hoot.

I think you're confusing the warnings. Orlando wasn't supposed to get hit today.
All reports had said tomorrow morning.

Typically the curfews are after the hurricane. Depending on damage they can last a week or more.

I really want to give a shout out to Rick Scott, the State of Florida, FPL, and pretty much every agency that has been so completely amazing today.
Kudos to Florida. This has been the most prepared for a hurricane that I have ever seen. They're on it. Even the power outages are so much fewer than they should/could have been comparitively.
