Hurricane Matthew

Silly question but what happens to those with fp+ reservations? Especially for frozen. Did those guests get an email or something? I imagine this is the first time my magic plus is experiencing a natural disaster.

I remember during Charley in 2004, they were handing out all kinds of chips outside the closed food court at All Star Music. There was a man there just screaming at the CM as to how he would feed his children, especially his baby who was too young to eat chips. Charley hit at 9 p.m that night, and there were ample warnings that it was coming (although it did change direction late in the game to come through Orlando). But as a parent, he could have purchased food earlier in the day before the food court closed like many of us did. It was better to be prepared than not as this man found out. The CM was awesome and kept his cool when dealing with this person, especially when we all also came to his defense. When in doubt, it is always best to operate on the side of caution and be prepared.

You also have to allow that people are stressed out, particularly if you're from somewhere that would never experience a hurricane. You came for a Disney vacation, not to hunker down for a hurricane. That doesn't absolve them from taking it on themselves to prepare.

Given that a Cat4 storm with 130mph sustained winds was forecast to make landfall - or come damn near close - I haven't seen anyone overreact. Ive seen a lot of dumb people doing dumb things. Storm shifts 15 miles the other way and its absolute devastation.

Very true. Hermine made a due North jog for a short period before continuing to head NE. If the storm hadn't made that jog, Tallahassee wouldn't have been under the WNW eyewall for 1.5 hours. I wouldn't have been without power for 6 days...and would have made our trip to Universal. Quincy, 29 miles to the west of Tallahassee, just experienced a wet, very windy evening. So yes, those relatively small shifts in direction can make a BIG difference in impact.

I wonder do people who travel to Orlando during hurricane season even realize its hurricane season?

If this blows over to nothing hopefully they will open the parks or some parks tomorrow.

And refund those people who actually used QS dining credits on those $13 hurricane rations.

Jimmy Thick- $ 13 hurricane rations, it never gets old...

I wish we could place bets on a park opening. The capital side of me says, yes. That is tons of money. They are loosing money with the parks being closed. But its doubtful, they need to do any cleanup. But honestly, 530am,nothing is happening here.

They've already announced parks are closed today. I wouldn't count on it. CMs will probably be in them at the earliest "all clear" but then they'll need the entire day to prep them for Saturday opening.

Good point. And if they vaguely know, do they know it ends November 30th? Most people would be thinking, "Thanksgiving at Disney!", not the end of hurricane season. Kate in 1985 was a week before Thanksgiving...

:( sounds so selfish, but I'm stuck in NY. I should be at the airport right now - or for my second flight they cancelled - later this evening.

Honestly, first and foremost, my thoughts & prayers are with everyone down there.

But - it's the little 7-year-old in me that is crying for my lost opportunity to come out and play. It was supposed to be my b'day trip - my daughter's b'day trip - and the first one with my mom since my dad passed. We had so many wonderful things planned for her to experience.

I do hope everyone is safe and damage is minimal. I know people who are still recovering from Sandy up here.

It's interesting watching the local news. They have all been preparing us for the worst. And for the last 6 hours they have shown drizzle rain. Even torrential rain on the coast is no different than a tropical storm. Now they look like dupped, they been reporting rain. Im waiting for the bad weather.

It's a hurricane. As much as we complain of the heightened drama from the media, I would rather they report we should prepare for the worst. Hopefully that gets people's a**es in gear.

I'm completely OK with over preparing, and getting people ready for the worst. The storm could have just as easily turned West instead of East like it did. For the most part, it was folks in the barrier islands that really needed to be on alert. I'd rather people be unhappy that they were inconvenienced than injured or killed by trying to ride it out. It's just an unpredictable situation.
