Hurricane Irma

Only the UKM model shows it making landfall in Florida. NHC track has it turning sooner.. Worth keeping an eye on.

Now, now. I don't have dog in this fight. I think it's time to put that particular issue to rest and move on.

It was never supposed to be an "issue".

I hope that it isn't brought up again.. and I hope that maybe 1 or 2 parents who read the posts from those of us who's schools are doing so will mention it to their school.

Enough said.

From @tikiman Facebook. They had RCFD there on Sunday, and the lights appear to be on. Couldn't have been much fun in them. At least the people got a lot of DVC points back if they were evacuated.

That was supposedly due to a fire alarm.

Honestly there is no reason the bungalows would be any less safe except for the fact moving in and out of them would be more difficult vs the interior access the main buildings have. There isn't significant flooding risks with the lagoon and actually being isolated from the trees/etc is almost a benefit.

The type of wind Orlando was to get it wasn't a risk to taking down modern structures. Tornados... on the other hand would be a bigger issue.

Thanks for posting the pic.

They *had* to have been evacuated. There is no way in heck I can imagine Disney let anyone stay in there - while I'm sure computer models and such were done before they were installed, but with this being the first real test of them in extreme weather, they would have been absolutely negligent had they not.

I mean, look at what all that computer modeling did for our dear Yeti...

Looking at the comments on @tikiman FB, it says the bungalows were evacuated on Saturday.

I’m very glad to see the hurricane has passed. Thank you to everyone on this site who reported from their resorts - your stories made me feel a lot better.

My flight is still scheduled for tomorrow, according to Virgin. Waiting to see what MCO says. I’d love to be at Disney tomorrow, so I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Can I ask, is your whole holiday booked through Virgin or just your flights? We're due to fly out with them on Thursday but we were told last Saturday that virgin holidays weren't allowing any customers to travel until after the 17th even though virgin Atlantic would be operational before that. We haven't heard that our holiday has to be cancelled yet...

I'd like to start by thanking everyone sharing photos! This thread has been way too fast and furious for me to follow all 193 pages (far from it), but I did scroll and look at the photos from about 171 onward!

I do have a question, although I'm not convinced I'll see all the answers considering the speed things are moving along here, but I'll give it a shot anyway!!

Last year, we got lucky, our scheduled flight out before Matthew left about 5 hours before the airport closed. We saw the hubub in the hotel lobby that morning (All Star Sports) but didn't have to deal with it ourselves. When we got home, we saw reports that the food was extremely badly handled in the situation. Excessively long lines for very small food boxes seemed to be the biggest complaint. I realise that storm was absolutely nothing in comparison to this one, but I'm wondering if Disney was able to learn from that past mistake and deal with it better at the All Star and the other hotels.

Ugh. I don't want this subject to go on.. it was one comment.. 3 people on this thread who's schools are doing a specific fundraiser. Out of uniform passes are offered a few times per year for various fundraising. This is the first time I've ever seen one for a week.

Let's use the 50cent or $1 pass. Most families can afford afford $1-$3 per day for 5 days. It might mean skipping something that you had planned, ordering a pizza etc.. it's about giving to someone who is worse off than you.
How that could possibly be viewed as bad thing is utterly baffling.

Ok enough of that.. the way a simple statement was turned into something ugly is seriously crazy to think about. I hope it ends here.
Listen I will never agree with paid ability to avoid uniforms regardless of what the money is used for. It defeats the purpose of uniforms in the first place and causes serious issues for some students and families. There are many other better ways to raise money without taking advantage of children and their families.

I'm interested to see what happens with the parks tomorrow with all four opening and adding EMH to MK.

It seems a good portion of the hotel are Florida residents. With a good chunk of rooms going to CMs as well. I'm sure there are others like me just waiting to fly out on Tuesday. Others won't be able to fly in until Tuesday so they won't be there in the morning. Still, those able to go to a park will likely choose MK- in particular now with EMH.
So how busy will that EMH be? And I'm actually more intrigued about DHS. Will 15 people show up there tomorrow am? It might be the slowest DHS Has ever been in years.

I keep thinking it's going to be relatively busy at MK tomorrow but it wouldn't surprise me to see it dead either.
I think even MK will be pretty dead.

I was there September 6 2004, after it had closed September 4 and 5 for Hurricane Frances. It was pretty dead then.
