Hurricane Dorian, should we cancel?

Hello, we are scheduled to fly into Orlando for a 4 night stay at Pop starting tomorrow. We can't decide if it's worth the risk, has anyone else been there during a hurricane? I think we are leaning towards canceling, but want to wait as long as possible until we do. We essentially have to decide in the next few hours.

Oh, OK. This thing is projected to become a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall sometime Monday, bringing damaging winds and massive amounts of rain and is projected to be right over Central Florida on Tuesday, your departure day.
Even if it fizzles out tomorrow, why would you even consider taking a chance?
Perhaps I am just projecting what I would do, but as for me, I can't even imagine not cancelling.

I was in your position two years ago with Irma. We canceled, and at the time it made me sick after a year of planning. It was the right thing to do. The parks closed for a day and a half, so we would have just been sitting in the room. Disney worked with people who could reschedule immediately, but we rescheduled for the next year. I did email guest services and we got memory maker comped and I truly believe an amazing fireworks view at our room as a result. It all worked out and we had a great visit.

The bottom line for me in making the decision was if there was damage and destruction, we’d just be people down there in the way who shouldn't have been there. Disney was prompt with refunding money and no hassle to cancel. But, I feel your pain and stress over this decision. Hope this helps.

It’s not going to be fun...even if it moves on another track you are looking at the better part of 2 days of rain.

From someone that was there during Hurricane Erin in the 90s, I'd say NO.
We had only gone on with the trip because it wasn't projected to make landfall anywhere near Orlando and was supposed to stay off coast, well, it turned at the last minute and came right at Orlando. It sucked. The parks were closed for a day or so and it was scary. It is not worth it with the Category of Hurricane you are looking at with Dorian right now. Erin was a lower category and it still sucked.

I'd be rescheduling my trip. Good luck!

You should be good unless damage from this storm results in a prolonged closure of the airport or parks, which it most likely won't.

I know that must have been a difficult decision, but I think you made the right call. They are changing the strom track and timing a little now, but still seems like the right choice. Hope you are able to reschedule without too much hassle.

Please excuse me if i'm incorrect, but wouldn't (shouldn't?) Disney reduce pricing on the hotels during the event of a hurricane? Do they offer full refunds outside of the 1 month advance notice?

This may sound, well, outright dumb, but I would think the best time to go would be during a hurricane.. lighter crowds, and the area was built to withstand hurricanes right?

I too was curious about this. If you knew for certain that a hurricane was about to hit the weekend you were flying in, I wouldnt even consider any other options but to cancel.
