Hurricane Dennis?????

We are traveling down on Tuesday. I have checked the Weather Channels 10 day forcast and it is showing rain for our entire stay. I am not sure if this is a mess from the hurricane or if this is the normal Orlando afternoon thunderstorm.

My question is, SHOULD WE REBOOK for different dates because of this hurricane?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A day at Disney in the rain is better than no day at Disney at all......
So true. Besides, most people seem to be made of sugar and must therefore go running for cover whenever it rains. DH and I just put on ponchos and go jumping through the puddles on the way to the rides (which usually have shorter lineups as a result). Part of the "being a little kid again" charm of WDW!

The only part that stinks about rain is the fact that things like Fantasmic and Spectromagic can get cancelled if it's really coming down. But seeing as it tends to rain really hard for about a half hour between 2 and 5 in the afternoon, those events don't get cancelled all THAT frequently (but it also seems as though WDW is more willing to let events happen in soggier conditions than they used to!)

That being said, Wishes behind rainclouds is absolutely beautiful. Yes, you can't see the individual fireworks as well, but the colours are spectacular!

Most of the time there is a better chance of them getting cancelled due to winds than rain, especially the times of year we usually go.

It's a website with hurricane info. The chances of a hurricane actually hitting orlando is rare. Last year was an abnormality. I happened to be there. They call for rain in Florida ALL SUMMER. It usually rains at 2:00 for a few minutes and then maybe again at night. Remember florida is a subtropical climate. When it rains people flee the parks and the rides usually stay open unless there is really severe weather. This means no waitting in line. Brave the rain, it feels nice in the heat anyway. The only park that may close is Animal kingdom. They have to think about the animals safety. If you are staying at a disney resort they are well prepared for the weather emergecy. Just keep an eye on the forecast and you'll be fine.
I'm so sure of it I am going back again in august this year even after being there for Ivan last year.

Go. Definitely. You will have a great time. We were there last year the day after Ivan hit here on the Gulf Coast. The rain at WDW, which there was very little, was not a problem. I was very glad to be at WDW no matter what the weather. Similar to someone said earlier, I would say rain at WDW is better than being in the rain somewhere else. Besides, you take the chance if you reschedule that there may be another one out there threatening. Don't worry, just think about how much fun you are going to have.

Like most of the others posting here, I'd agree that you definitely should keep your vacation plans! Dennis will have skewed way to the west of Disney before Tuesday, and should have no effect on Disney long before then.

As far as the daily thunderstorms forecast, those are a normal occurrence in Florida all summer, regardless of the hurricane situations. Most of the time, the thunderstorms don't last all day - usually they will blow through the area fairly quickly, only bringing rain for 15-20 minutes or less. That's not always the case, but usually having a forecast of daily thunderstorms usually doesn't mean the storms will last all day during those days.

Just as most of the others have recommended, bring your ponchos and plan on having lots of fun! You may have to temporarily seek shelter from a passing thunderstorm, but probably not for long. :D

I echo just about everyone before me... Florida is open! Please come spend time at the park!

Yes, it will rain like it does just about everyday here. It's Florida, the Sunshine State, also the Summertime Thunderstorm State.

They make ponchos for a reason, summer is it! Just know you might get soaked in a five minute rain storm and all will be fine! It's just a part of the state that those who live here are used to!

As for the Hurricane, it's going way west. Hardly any rain here in Orlando area today. Sunday might be wet, but that' it! The panhandle area will be a different story... My prayers are with those riding out the storm up along the west coast.

Thank you all so much for all the encouragement. I definately feel better. I was always planning on the afternoon thunderstorms but when I checked Weather Channels web site (only because of Dennis) they make the forcast look so bleak for the entire weak.

We will go on Tuesday and never look back. And thanks Mandi, your story about Charly definately made me feel MUCH better.

Your welcome!!! Just make sure you enjoy your trip with or without a hurricane!!!

Just to follow up, I have family at the Disney-MGM Studios park today, and spoke with them about ten minutes ago. They arrived in the park around noon and told me there has been no rain this afternoon.

And at the same time they were telling me this, Dennis was coming ashore in Santa Rosa County, FL.

So, there you have it.

You have to expect rain just about every afternoon in Orlando in the summer, hurricane or no hurricane. It usually only lasts a short time, though - definitely NOT enough to re-plan your entire trip! There's certainly no guarantee that the weather would be sunny and cloudless any other time of the year, either. Come on down!

Trust me , dont listen to the weather reports, they always post for everyday of summer in orlando and miami "Scattered T- Storms" mostly because its better to make people believe it's raining and be prepared, than not. Your trips are going to be great!!! Im gonna be in the world on the 16th!!! first time back to magic kingdom and MGM in 3-4 years!
