Hunchback of Notre Dame get's killed

The backlot area of the park is almost dead. With Hunchback gone there is almost no reason to go there after Christmas.

I don't think a new stage show will get people down there.

How about a "cheap" Six Flags- style steel coaster or something of the sort?

Disney can no longer afford to make those fantastic "over the top" attractions they they have built in the past.

Typical prefab steel coasters like Rockin' Roller Coaster cost between 8 to 20 million dollars. (without the Imagineering bells and wistles)

With the amount of money spent on Mission Space, Disney could have bought 5 to 10 very nice IOA or Busch Gardens type attractions.....5 to 10 of them!!!!!!

Teens LOVE that stuff. Which is where Disney is really hurting in the park demographics these days. Teens want screaming G-forces on every ride. ( cheap thrills)

Do you replace Hunch with a SINGLE epic scale e-ticket attraction?

Or, should Disney buy LOTS of cheaper thrill rides and install them all over Walt Disney World.....for the SAME money?

Dunno.

I won't miss Hunchback and don't know anyone that will. We would never have visited it again. (We love Beauty and the Beast.)

I think a side-splitting live comedy show would be great. Save the 5 million it would cost to put up a new ride and pay some good writers to come up with a great script and hire some great comedians. (My preference is Emperor's New Groove, but we've already done a thread on that. I don't think the theme is as important as the quality. Maybe use characters from a bunch of films. Base it on a video game. Mario and Luigi. Donkey Kong. I wouldn't care as long as it's hilarious. Everyone will go see it once, and if it's great, they'll keep coming back.)

My only problem with Beauty and the Beast is that the "live" singing is 100% fake.

In Hunchback, only the background music and chior is tape. All of the lead vocals are REAL. An atual chance for a singer to go off key, an actual chance for a singer to mess up a line....or sing something even BETTER than the person doing it on a tape!!

This made the show more interesting and just a little bit different every time you saw it.

The people that do that are displaying actual "talent".

In B and the B...anyone at all can look good and lip-sync.

To each is own though.

Hunchback

I will miss the Hunchback Show. It is the only stage show that I can repeat on visits. I do agree it is getting old and would be nice to have something new. I am just skeptical that they will replace it with anything with the production quality that Hunchback has. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Does anyone know the show schedule from now til the 28th? I don't know if I will be able to get there on the 28th but maybe sometime before...

Please help...

I love the Hunchback but we all have to be grateful it lasted as long as it did. It was a real highlight of all of our visits and it will be missed. I am sure that the talent, though perhaps sad that it is finally ending, will be happy to move on to new things. :)

The Hunchback is a terrific show. The opening prologue scene using puppets is a neat trick. My family and I will miss it (even though we've seen it at least two dozen times since it's premiere). I definately prefer this show over Beauty and the Beast. Although the Beauty story is geared to a bigger audience (in it's presentation and content), Hunchback was like having a true piece of Broadway at the Disney/MGM Studios, and it is LIVE!!

I can't imagine the stage being left empty for long, but then I said that about the lagoon in Fantasyland. I hope they create a focal point at that end of the park to keep it from being deserted. It's quiet enough as it is down there.

One more thing....has anyone (who's traveled to Europe) seen the stage version of Hunchback that was produced in Germany?

it'll be the same thing that when Doug Live and the KoK shows were cancelled. The equity performers will be sent to other shows around WDW for the remainder of their contracts, or they will have the option to quit. The character based performers will be sent to other areas in the WDW Character department.

one thing though... please use punctuation.. all I see is 1 of these: ? and none of these: .

I hope noone wants to go there. As Rob knows I have a family member that was in the show and he worked VERY hard at his job even if it looked like he was just a candelabra dancing. He takes his job very seriously and always strives to perform his role at his greatest ability.

amen... even when I'm in a show that I hate doing (ToD!), I'll still do it right, and do it well. It's called The Show Must Go On... people are paying to see you, leave your baggage at the door, and come back for it after the show. You should see me sometimes... backstage I'm cursing, shouting, generally ed, onstage, I'm the reason that people are paying money to see the show/parade. Then I go backstage again... MOTHER...!

Well, I will admit I enjoyed this show for many years but I think it's time for the Backlot Theater to go.

For some reason, this is the loudest out of all of the WDW theaters. From the temporary metal bleachers that are so annoying when guests go up and down them and the kids that continually stomp on the metal during the show to this theater in the rain when there is wind...We have definitely built better theaters. Also, evidently kids also don't relate to Hunchback as they do Beauty because normally at Beauty you can hear a pin drop during the show and every time I watch Hunchback, unless I sit all the way up front, forget it. The farther you sit in the back, the worse it is because of the noise, as well as this theater not having the best sound system. I remember back when this theater was used for Beauty and the Beast while Sunset Blvd was being constructed and for the Pocahontas show. I always thought this theater looked temporary in nature as well so of course it's not perfect.

However, I really hope they don't let this spot sit vacant for long...this part of the park certainly needs some foot traffic. I'm hoping that in the long term master plan of the Studios that the entrance road off of World Drive will be pushed further south so that this park can be expanded further south from the NYStreet area.

Hopefully with the good news that the Extra Magic Hour is coming...there is more good news to follow. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'll be sad to see the Hunchback go. the first time mt youngest saw it he cried! and then ended up laughing as Quasi, jumped up and down ringing the bell. it doesn't matter how old a show is, if the story is good there is always a place for it. Remember there are still people out there who are visiting disney for the first time.

I would guess that some of the performers in the show are a bit anxious to end Hunchback. As for moving them to somewhere else in WDW, I would think some want to move on from Disney, and try something else out. I know a lot of stage actors don't like to be stuck in one role for a long time, and are always trying to move up in their career, rather than stay in the same place for a large amount of time. It is only fair to let these guys go out and do other things. They can already say they did Disney, now they can try out for something more. (Broadway, Hollywood, Branson, Missouri :) )

I'm sure that everyone would agree that singing live music is VERY , V E R Y difficult!! I have a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for people that have the guts to go out there with hundreds of critical people listening and waiting for them to make a mistake....and sing their butts off, as best they can.

I do not doubt that castmembers in B & the B work hard. They DO have physical rolls, have difficult cues and must work in very hot costumes.

Then again, so do the Hunchback castmembers....plus they have the added burden of actual singing. (dificult and dynamic lines to boot...Allen Menkin didn't make this material easy for anybody)

I do sing myself a bit. If I went onstage and lip-synched to an Aerosmith song...(which I "sang" perfectly)... Then, I got a standing ovation from the audience.....dude, I would feel REALLY awkward about taking a bow to that...REALY STRANGE!

Call me crazy and way out in left field, but that's just the way I feel about lip-syncing in general. ( If I didn't sing it, I'm not taking credit for it)

Yes, I DO understand that the cast of B & the B do work very hard and take thier jobs seriously. I DO respect them for that.

you're a singer, aren't you... There are other ways to judge a performance, rather than by whether the cast is actually singing or not. I challenge anyone to dance as hard as some of these people, and sing perfectly as well.. anyone? I thought not...

Given the circumstances, "Clopan" and "Quasi" do it pretty damn well.

They run around like chickens with their heads cut off, sing very difficult material and do it 95% on key.

That's some pretty amazing "talent".

That's the only thing I'm trying to say.

Maybe I'm totatly, completly 100% wrong about this.

Maybe lip-syncing is every bit as difficult as "real" singing.

I certainly find myself being able to lip-sync MUCH easier than doing "actual" singing and trying to stay in perfect pitch.

When I lip-sync to my favorite Aerosmith song, I find that I always hit those dificult high notes every single time. Odly enough, the same thing happens when I lip sync to songs from the Placido Domingo and Pavoratti. (spelling)

Lip syncing makes me feel (and sound) like a superstar.

But than again, that might just be only me talking crazy, off the wall stuff again.

I do that from time to time.
