How's The Brown Derby?

We didn't care for it...thought it did not live up to the hype. We had terrible service and their were only liek five tables occupied. The food was mediocre at best and my husband who LOVES his dessert absolutely hated the grapefruit cake. We usually give a place a second chance in case of an off night. We have not done that for BD because we don't think it is worth two table service credits on the dining plan when there are so many other places we truly enjoy.

Be sure to try the Cobb salad and the grapefruit cake. Both are signature items from the original Brown Derby. :slurp:
I absolutely second that suggestion! You can also request the cake recipe and wow your friends with it when you get home :). I honestly can't remember the food all that well (except the cake), but the ambience was wonderful, the service was great and I loved the feeling of having walked into old Hollywood--especially the great old photos on the walls. All in all, it was a great time.

I love Hollywood Studios and still call it MGM by accident sometimes. I love to walk in the park and hear the 1930's music. I also love anything to do with 1930's and 1940's Hollywood, so I had to do the Brown Derby at least once. The exterior and interior are nice. I can imagine Clark Gable and Joan Crawford walking past my table.

We picked a particulary hot day when we were tired and hungry mid-day and wanted a long lunch. I've never seen the place crowded and the air was on full blast when I went.

It was a nice time but the food is expensive and truly not the top seafood and steak I've ever had. I went there awhile ago and I remember I had some type of creamy, bisque soup that was good.

Nothing to write home about. Also, the staff were pleasant but I'm not sure if they were stuffy or the atmosphere of the restaurant made them appear that way.

There were a few toddlers and small children about and they seemed bored and fidgity. Deals were made. One parent promised that when they were done they would go later to Toy Story Pizza Planet.

If I had a choice and didn't plan to go to this park much I definitely can't pass on the the 50's Prime Time Cafe and Sci-Fi. I have to go there at least once per visit.

The food is not fancy but it is always tasty and I love that they both have fun, unique decor.

Also, the 50's and 60's are when my parents grew up so they happen to love the nostalgia of those two restaurants.

After giving this more thought, I agree with the above. If you want a truly impressive meal for the same two credits, Narcoosee's (at the GF) can't be beat. While in Disney Studios (I still call it MGM too!) you would have more fun plus a decent and less expensive meal at the Sci Fi!
