How would you make the Astro Orbiter better

I will reiterate what some others have said, in that ours definitely needs to stay off the ground, whatever effect the elevator might have on wait times. The height sets the ride apart from the other spinners, and offers an excitement boost to an otherwise dull ride.

If I could change it, I would consider a similar plan to what they are doing with dumbo, and build a second one across the main drag on the roof of Star Traders. Either have a entirely separate queue in that building or devise a way to get passengers across by either a catwalk or some other bridge. Theme that side up to be the "bad guy" space ships, and leave the current side as the "good guys" and add some story around that. Add IR lasers on each spaceship and allow them to earn points similar to buzz by having targets on the surrounding planets and on the other spinners across the way.

I hope they get rid of the current version of that eyesore. I was recently thinking how long it's been the way it is (since 1994), and that hopefully it's finally "outdated" enough to make them redo it. To me, it looks like a giant mobile of something a 5 year old would have in his bedroom. I loved the clean, streamlined, simplistic look of the original Astro orbiter (or Star Jets as they were called). Maybe with some of the recent changes (like the Laugh Floor sign being made retro again, and the new exit ramp room at Space Mountain), they will simplify it to that retro-future theme.

Doing that would make it Dumbo. The height is the only thing that makes AO unique. 🤷
... or Triceratop Spin ... or Magic Carpets of Aladdin

These are all essentially the same ride to me. I like Astro Orbiter just fine. Being tall, I guess I could jump on board the 'more space in the ride car' sentiment.

at night it looks awesome, from the ground and from the ride. Everyone should try it at night
don't touch it, its that retro future look they should be going for.
And nice job opening up a 10 year old thread

I haven't done it at night, maybe it is indeed better then.

And sorry if it annoys people to bump an old thread. On another forum I'm a member of, we're encouraged to comment on a thread of existing subject matter instead of taking up more space creating a new thread, so I thought I was doing this site a favor.

Being new to this forum- I am still getting caught up to date on changes that have happened to the parks, and I want to voice my opinion on some of these topics even if they happened some time ago. In the future, I will do what I can to find the most recent, relevant thread for something I wish to add on to and discuss. However, sometimes that relevant thread is indeed old, but I feel an entire new thread is not necessary.

If you do comment on an old thread, you will be let known very quick like that you commented on an old thread.

If you create a new thread regarding a 10 year old+ subject, same thing.

However, it might be helpful to find like a 6 or less year old thread in the future, just to play it safe. ;)

And welcome!

I will do what I can. Thank you for your understanding :)

I never went on the Astro Orbiter until my last trip because I finally saw a line for it that was under 45 min (and it was only 15min which I can't ever recall seeing on my trips).

It was a fun experience for my son and I. We took a few selfies that had some great park backgrounds... but my gawd, are those rockets uncomfortable, especially on the sides!

Since the rockets don't have the ability to pivot with the angle of the boom arm holding it, you are tipped to different angles while also having centrifugal forces applied to you. The worst of which is near the conclusion when the arms all descend but stay at full speed. You get squished against the outer edge of the rocket and it HURTS! I'd fix that before anything else.
