How to Un-Commando the Disney Vacation?

We love to plan everything down to the minute in the months before we go because it allows us to daydream about our trip. When we actually get there, it all goes out the window and we do what the kids want to do. If the kids are happy, we are happy.

That's the best part about planning a Disney vacation...daydreaming about the trip.

Once we decided to un-commando our trips, they suddenly became a whole lot more enjoyable! Like we were actually on vacation! Once you start wandering aimlessly you start noticing all of the little things.

It is easy to slow down after you've done things enough. You say, "If we don't ride Soarin this trip, we'll get to it next time." So you go where you want, when you want and you do whatever you feel like doing.
I agree with this. It seems a lot of people here get down to WDW at least once a year, if not more. If you are going far more infrequently, you feel more compelled to get everything in. If I was going more often, I would feel differently...I think.

We were definitely commando types. But now we have the little one. The last amusement park we went to was the first with my kid. I completely oriented myself to him. We are huge roller coaster people, but we didn't even ride one, and I was ok with it. Whenever it is that we get back down to WDW, I will have to un-commando the trip for the best interests of my son.

in the past...I would go every 7 years...by the time I got back to the Parks...I was crazy...but after I started going once a year...I calmed down...just a little

I am going in November for 7 days (the longest trip yet!) and with some newbies so HOPEFULLY there will be plenty of time to just do. I've done all the attractions so I hope I can just relax and enjoy doing what they want to do. Its so fun seeing people do things for the first time!

Biggest lesson I've learned....TAKE A NAP!!:) That is the key to relaxation and enjoying yourself.

I ask my wife what she wants to ride first. Thats about the extent of our planning. (its usually HM or Pirates)

When we were a family of 5, we couldn't afford to go once a year. So I felt more pressure to make sure we did everything that everybody wanted to do. So I planned like crazy. And if it didn't work out according to plan, well, let's just say kids aren't necessarily the most flexible of beings! But, now that it's just DH and I, we do what we want to do. And if it doesn't work out, oh well. We'll be back next year. With that said, I must admit that if I didn't get to see Wishes! during my trip, I would throw a tantrum!
