How to hold back the tears?

So, I've mentioned it a few times...I'm a sap. No- seriously. :lookaroun

The trip we've got coming up is our girls' first and I've gone to great lengths to try and plan the perfect trip for them. The problem- every time I think about some of the highlights or watch a video of something I can't wait for them to do or see- I get teary eyed. I guess the appropriate term would be "Mouseketears." Surely, it will be all out crying when it's actually them experiencing these things. And it's a lot of things doing this... thoughts about their first boat ride over to MK when they get their first glimpse of the castle...sitting on Main Street when the lights go out for MSEP...their first Mickey meeting...BBB and CRT...pictures of them and my parents at Akershus...MVMCP...and so on.

Is anyone else like this? And if so, how do you control the tears? I know I'm not going to be able to control it all the time, but I don't want to be a blubbering mess the entire trip.

Heck yea, we were just there in Aug. and my poor hubby knows he has an emotional wreck on his hands w/me. This last trip though we had all new experiances I was able to meet up and hang with some of my social network disney friends in the parks and my DD-11 got to meet new friends her age. Well the day we had to leave my DD & my self literally cried driving off the property.. Hubby had a look of we being over dramatic, but he just doesn't understand that my heart is there.

So if you need tissues I always have them on hand when it comes to Disney.

I surprised myself this year. We made it to the opening of Magic Kingdom our second day, and when the train came down with all the characters on it, I started crying. Actually crying. It was just so "magical."

The first time we took DD to Disney she was almost 3 years old. When we went under the gates and I pointed it out to her she just bounced up & down in her car seat, clapping her little hands in excitement & I totally lost it! Huge tears pouring down my cheeks! I wept unashamedly for what seemed like forever. At every new experience I would get teary eyed! We've gone to Disney every year in Sept for her birthday. Next year she will be a senior in high school and it will probably be her last birthday trip for many years to come. I don't even want to think about how the tears will flow then................... So, no you are not alone. Cry, get misty eyed and hold tight to every moment and every new experience with your children. The time will pass quickly!

Ok...so now I'm crying again!)

Don't even try to control the tears. I have no problems admitting that leading up to my DD's first trip, I was a teary mess. Throughout the entire first trip, I was a mess as well.
22 days until our second trip, and guess what, still happening.
I know for a fact that the moment she sees the castle off in the distance and does this things she does where her jaw actually drops and she covers her mouth and sits in silence because she can't believe what she is seeing, I'm going to lose it again.

On my third or fourth trip to Disney World (but the only one I can fully remember) I cried during the opening of Magic Kingdom too. It was the first time going with my boyfriend and having him hold me while watching the train pull up was def one of the memoriable moments of our trip. I also cried like a baby when I was chosen to be in the HSM3 show at DHS. I am a big fan of the Disney Channel and their movies and it took me about 30 minutes on the phone with my mom before I was done crying because I was so excited. Sounds stupid and I must have looked like a complete idiot crying in the middle of DHS but it was probably one of the happiest moments of my life being a part of a Disney Show for the first time at the age of 22 at the time.

The simple answer is you don't control it. I have found that blaming "fireworks debris" for my watery eyes works quite well.:D

I don't know if there really is a way to control it all the time. I know I cry the last night we are there I gave up trying to control it. The only thing that makes it somewhat better is imagining what it will be like the next time, and thinking of planning it the moment we get home. LOL

To paraphrase Tom Hanks; “Crying! There’s no crying in Disney!”
You’ll cry and feel like silly while the kids love it. When DS went off to his first day of school DW and I waited at the bus stop with him, as the bus pulled up DW and I were crying like two idiots while he looked at us shook his head and said “I got to go , stop that you’re embarrassing me.”

Let's see: I cry when the DVC customer service people are nice to me-My husband usually has to do the talking. I cry when you drive through the gates-main and resort. I cry when they say Welcome Home at our DVC resort. I cry at the commercials and I cry when they introduce our family on the cruise ship. The biggest cry of all is when I watch the movie about Walt Disney at DHS. I am tearing up right now. It truly is the most magical place on Earth!

So, don't try to stop!

My son carried around a Buzz Lightyear from the time he started walking until he was 6. We went to MK for his birthday on his first trip. We rode the Buzz Lightyear ride and after exiting, my son spotted Buzz walking out for his meet and greet at the amphitheater entrance (not located there anymore). He started running and jumped up into Buzz's arms. I cried like a babbling baby because I knew what a big deal that was for him. Even today, 6 years later, I can look at the pictures and tear up. You just automatically get the "warm fuzzies" when entering the park, so there's nothing else like making a special Disney memory. Even the advertising people recognize it and decided to make it the campaign for the year. Enjoy every moment and let 'em flow. You won't be alone!

Mouseketears! I LOVE it.

I totally agree with everyone else on here- tissues are always required for me too. Is it sad that I tear up when I watch the promotion DVD or the commercials??

The OP asked how to hold them back... My answer to that: Why try?? They're happy tears, not sad ones! So I say, let them flow. And since we're all in the same boat, we don't have to feel silly about it either. :)

Sounds like I'll be making some room in my back pack for some tissues...although, I do really like the fireworks debris and pixie dust excuses. Considering I'm bringing extra glitter with me (younger DD who will be 2 tomorrow needs me to replicate the BBB experience since she's too young) the pixie dust explanation is quite plausible.

And here I go again...as we sit here watching Mary Poppins with the girls and I continue to work on a Tinkerbell themed bday cake...I find myself getting misty once again.

Last June, I proposed to my Girl on Main St. As we watched Wishes, I freakin lost it haha. I can only imagine what it'll be like when we have kids and bring them. Its the only place I'm emotional haha. People sobbed just watching me proposing haha. Its quite a special place. No other vacation spot can do this to people.

I may not cry but I choke up a bit when thinking about what new exp my kids will have at each trip. My kids are slowly getting tall enough for things so every trip, we have some firsts. My oldest is now 49in without shoes. Our next trip, she'll be riding the RNRC for the first time. This will also be her first inversion *sniff sniff* lol My youngest is now 37.5in. Hopefully, by the time we go, she'll be tall enough for a few "firsts." Also, every trip, I try to find a few new things for them to do. Last trip, my youngest was (still is) obsessed with Ms. Mouse. I had sewn her a Minnie dress and bows, full outfit head to toe. All day, she talked of seeing MM. When we finally got over to the meet'n'greet, I did get misty eyed. She was so HAPPY! We had to pry her off of her legs lol. When we went to DHS, she saw MM and went running down the street (we didn't see the mouse) which kinda freaked us out... until we saw the mouse. Of course, she went running into someone's pic :lookaroun I get misty eyed and we go every year. lol. In fact, I'm a little misty now just remembering back to those days. This past trip, my son was going to meet Buzz and Woody. He was so excited. We waiting in that long line, taking pics at every photo prop. When we rounded the corner and was next in line, he was bouncing and cheesing. When it was his turn, he just stood there. lol. Meanwhile, his sisters went and hugged and posed for photos. He finally got in there, hugged, high fived, took pics, then came out declaring that they weren't real since they didn't talk. lol I about DIED laughing!

Oh heck, I just cried tonight. We made reservations a couple of months ago for the Contemporary (garden wing) in September 2011. Tonight, hubby said "hey, why don't we just spring for the Tower, MK view". I immediately picked up the phone, talked to the nicest Cast Member in the world and bam....we now have reservations for a MK tower room. I just lost it. I have never had a MK view and I can't wait. Tears of Disney joy happen all the time for me.

I say, let the tears flow. Just have some tissues on hand. When we took our daughter for her first trip when she was 5 the first character she saw was Captain Hook and she ran up to him and threw her arms around him. I'm standing there sobbing like a big baby. I thought for sure my hubby was going to make fun of me so I look over at him and he was crying too. That was not the only time that trip that tears fell. But when my daughter and I sat on the ground and watched Wishes together holding hands I couldn't help but cry.
