How to avoid Food Poisoning....

I have obviously been reading too many of the what can go wrong threads. So prep me please. Are there any "known" places to avoid? Any certain meals to avoid?

There aren't any known places or meals to avoid.

While food poisoning can happen anywhere, it will be hard to prep for it. You can eat all veggie meals if you are worried about meat not being kept at appropriate temps, eat at only signature restaurants so that each meal is made that day, but none of that is guaranteed to keep you free of food poisoning.

Just bring lots of pepto bismol, keep fluids for hydration and hope for the best.

Not even that not will help. Veggies, especially uncooked veggies, are quite frequently the cause of foodborne illness. Even contaminated meat can be rendered safe by cooking it to a high enough temperature.

As far as I know all Disney meals are made that day. They are required to follow all the same rules as any other restaurant. Some of the biggest food poisoning out breaks recently have been from vegetables.

As for the OP Disney is not known for food poisoning. Some people have posted claiming food poisoning but if they did get food poisoning they were isolated incidents.

Most illnesses at Disney come from being around a lot of people and touching things like door handles, remote controls, railings etc as you travel or tour to the parks. Airport and planes are germ factories as well.

Thank you. I needed this.

Relax :angelic: I had the same cause of concern when I went on my first cruise. I had read horror stories of people getting sick then getting kicked off the boat or being put in isolation and once I cruised - it was no problems at all. The best thing to do for WDW is pack peptobysmol (I buy the chewable tabs). I have never had food poisoning at WDW - at their quick service and definatley table service resturants - cleanliness is exceptional. But as others have said you cant really predict a food illness. Just relax and enjoy eating and know you will prob gain alot of weight.

I have a habit of going to every restroom I pass to watch my hands (even more so in the summer) to wash my hands and clense my face. That amount of people in the parks create all types of everything.

That's good to know. I have eaten a few meals that tasted like they sat under a heat lamp all day.

Interesting question. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to prevent food poisoning. However, I've been going to WDW for many years and have never had a problem. The only thing that comes to mind is eating undercooked foods such as rare beef, soft cooked eggs, etc. That might place you at risk. That being said...I also like my beef rare and soft cooked eggs. o_O

You can get food poisoning anywhere, so I wouldn't worry about it any more s o at WDW. Five years ago my little nephew got dangerously ill from eating some Veggie Booty at home which was contaminated with salmonella during an outbreak related to that product. (He was fine eventually.)

I have been going to WDW for 30+ years. I have only been sick one time, and that was bronchitis. I'm pretty sure I had those germs before we left. I get a decent amount of heartburn, and I can only remember having one issue with that in WDW. That was after eating at Boma, and it was just because it was food that I was not used to. A couple of pepcids later, I was good to go.

Never had food poisoning in 30 some years visiting the parks. Your probably more apt to pick something up from touching something that hundreds ahead of you just touched...door knobs, railings etc.

I've been 15 times to WDW, and only had a problem once. At Sci-Fi DIne In, I ordered a hamburger. It was huge! I ordered it medium-rare, (probably my mistake right there).
After losing 24 hours of my trip spent in my bed and bathroom, :hungover: I recovered and enjoyed the rest of my trip.

That said, it was an isolated situation, and never had another problem since. (well one time at Pizza Planet, the strawberry shortcake had mold on top of the strawberry, but we caught that)>

As they say on the TV show Bizarre Foods, "if it looks good, eat it!"......;)
