How much room is inside the Magic Kingdom?

Okay in light of the Fantasyland expansion happening soon it got me thinking two things.

One, where is Mickey and Minnie's house going to be? And the Barnstormer? (I know I should know this)

Secondly, how much room is beyond Fantasyland as it is? Is there enough room to add things from the edge of FL to the train tracks that border the park?

This got me wondering since I can't see them adding rides outside of the tracks

They will very likely never add anything between the Fantasyland Expansion and the railroad tracks to the north. The Expansion is butting up against the backstage road that marks the edge of the fireworks fallout zone. If they did build anything, it would either have to be entirely enclosed (not impossible, ala the indoor Mermaid Lagoon in DisneySea), or they'd have to close it nightly for the fireworks like they have to do with Toontown at Disneyland.

Most of the major expansion areas that are generally agreed upon by regulars here on WDWMagic are all on the outside of the railroad tracks (or spanning the tracks).
There's one between Splash and Pirates if they can figure out what to do about the parade route.
There's one to the southwest of the park that would require a long queue/access similar to Indiana Jones at Disneyland.
There's the expansion area in Tomorrowland between CoP and Space Mountain.
There was also talk once of pushing out to the other side of the railroad tracks northeast of the current Toontown Fair.

Of course there's also the nice big Tomorrowland Speedway... :lookaroun

Barnstormer is staying, just being rethemed to clowns to fit in with the adjacent Dumbo area. It's barely even moving (I read from one source that it has to be moved something like 10-20 feet)

I'm not sure which area you are talking about but according to the layout map of MK in the 2009 Complete Guide, there is still a ton of room to the north of Fantasyland.

True, but as wdwfan94 pointed out, that area is a fireworks fallout zone.

You forgot about the employee parking are behind Main Street. Perfect size for a new E-Ticket!

Outside the tracks... North East on the other side of the tracks from Toontown is designated, as is a large area including the wet dock behind BTM. The latter would cost a fortune to develop. Between COP and SM could be in or outside the berm (an unnamed 1980 dark ride would have gone outside, a 1994 Omnimax attraction inside) and between the JC and POTC would be outside, again similar to DLs Indy.

The plot between Splash and POTC isn`t really a plot - it has the AVAC dump which would be near impossible to move.

You also do have the parking next to COP and a small space between the Crystal Palace and the Treehouse. And the Fanland skyway plot (not that big)

The area north of Mermiad in new FanLand could be developed, but at a prohibitive cost - it was never developed in 1969 and so is still virgin swampy ground. Plus as mentioned it is a fallout area so would be useless as an exterior, and would need supression on the roof of any show building.

There are a lot of if's and what if's there. It would all depend on many different factors, and since it's not being built, the question really can't be answered.

To give you an idea, the impacted area of Fantasyland starts being shut down 1:00-1:30 before the fireworks.

Also, there's a ton of backstage infrastructure that would need to be dealt with between the old 20K plot and the train tracks. The utilidor entry area would have to be redone, a backstage road re-routed and a new bridge built over the train tracks to service the entrance.

Is this one minute or one hour?

60-90 minutes.

In Disneyland, they have to clear out all of Toontown, which includes cycling out all the attractions and ushering the Guests out. There have actually been a few times where the fireworks have been delayed because of Guests not wanting to leave Toontown.

In the Magic Kingdom, only two stores are really impacted by the Wishes closure. They close, ropes go up with CMs stationed at them, and the queues for Snow White and Philharmagic get re-routed slightly (their regular entrance points and Snow White's exit point are both within the roped off zone). Guests entering and leaving Royal Table in the castle are ushered out the front of the Castle.
