How much room for an air mattress?

Hi, When you go down to WDW in Sept./Oct, we will be staying at Caribean Beach Resort in a room with two beds. We will be taking a air mattress. Does anyone know if a twin is the largest that will fit? Or will a double size fit? Thanks for the help.:animwink:

Don't know if it's allowed, what you want to do...

I was just thinking the same thing as Corrus. I dont know if they are actually allowed. If they are, I think the biggest that would probably fit is a twin. Even then, the thing would be RIGHT up against the front door and might obstruct the pathway across the foot of the beds (this is prob why they might not be allowed) There really isnt much spare room in most non-deluxe rooms in WDW.

"Allowed" or not, as long as you are not planning on having more people in the room than are allowed, I don't know how they would find out you were using an air matress unless you told them you were planning on using one. We thought about using one once before because of allergies, and calculated that a full-sized air matress would just fit in the space between the door and the beds at an irregular angle.

Just have an air pump, let the air out in the morning, fill it at night, fold it up when not in use and put it in one of the drawers. The only thing that would go against Fire Marshall Regulations would be more people in the rooms than the regulation allows, and has nothing to do with what is in the room and/or blocking the doorway... kind of the same way that they can't regulate whether or not you choose to store your luggage in front of the doorway.

If you want to do it and are following the rules on the number of people in the room, I would just do it and not worry about it.

There are only 4 of us. The two parents, a 14 DS and a 5 DS. I don't think the two DS's are going to be able to share. I've read several other threads where people have used air mattresses. Not to increase the number in the room, but to give each child a bed. Originally, we were going to try for a king and use the air mattress, but this DID go against Fire Codes because only 3 people, I believe 2 adults and a small child, were allowed.

I wasn't so much worried about doing it. I was just trying to figure out what size to buy. Sounds like a twin is about as large as we can go.

One other question though, on another thread I read where in the morning they slid the mattress under one of the regular beds. Are the beds at CBR like a regular frame? Or are they on like a solid base (something to the effect of solid wood)?

Hi MouseEarsDeb!
My family brings an air mattress every time. My husband is a very large man (6'2'' and shoulders like a linebacker), so there is NO WAY he can share a full size bed with anyone. I can't share a bed with my DD (17 yo) because she sleeps ALL OVER THE BED! I would have multiple bruises if she and I had to share a bed. So, we bring an air mattress. We usually bring a full size one and keep it under the bed nearer the door and just pull it out at night towards the door. It doesn't come out all the way, but gives you more room than a twin would. It fits perfectly under the full size bed that is in the room. No one has ever said anything to us and we have done this several times. But, the last time was 5 years ago (at the CB resort), so I don't know if they have changed anything. Hopefully the beds have not changed to those with the solid bottom (like lots of hotel beds) and they are still up so that the mattress will fit. If anyone says anything, try to explain that there is not enough room in a full size bed for two people. I prefer the air mattress over the beds. It is much more comfortable and I know who has slept on it!:lookaroun

Have fun!

I am pretty sure that the beds at CBR are raised off the ground and arent like the ones at the Poly that are pretty much built into the floor. I wouldnt try fitting anything bigger than a twin size in. You would probably only find urself tripping over anything bigger.

Years ago when our younger son was still a baby we needed a folding crib, even that little thing took a fair amount of space from the room so I would think that you would have a pretty tough time moving about when it's up. So if you hve someone who uses the bathroom alot thru the night think about where they might sleep. Good luck.

Well, I know you are staying elsewhere but I thought I'd mention it anyways just in case. We just stayed in one of the new Family Suites at the All Star Music Resort and it was grrrrrreat! The room is setup like a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom has a queen bed and the living area has a sleeper sofa that converts to a double or queen (not sure what size that was) and a chair with ottoman that turns into 2 seperate twin beds, so if you use all the beds in the room, you would actually have 4 beds!

It was a great deal, about $209 a night before taxes and even had a kitchen. I typically stay at the Wilderness Lodge but with the kids, this is a fantastic way of having room to stretch AND much needed privacy, all for less than a standard room at the Lodge. I think I'll be staying there from now on. Just a thought!

We had friends bring a twin to the CBR and they put it in between the two beds...it fit perfectly. This way, people could still crawl out of the bottom of the beds and have a clear path to the bathrooms...we bring one every time we go to the All Star, and even there we're still fine, so I think a twin would work for you!! HAVE FUN!!:king:

I too have a husband who takes up more than his fair share of the bed (6'4" and 230 lbs). We find it almost impossible to share a queen/full size bed (he has to sleep diagonally if he doesn't want his feet to hang off the bed). We have taken a queen sized airmatress to the moderate resorts for years for my two kids (10 and 11). You have to move the table and chairs around a little, but there is plenty of room for a queen sized air matress. We don't ever deflate it in the mornings, just prop it against the wall by the armoire. If there is room under the beds, great, but we have never had success with that. Good luck and have a great time!!!!!!

This is exactely what I had in mind! I just didn't know if there was enough room between the two beds. I think we will go with a twin.

We considered a roll away, but I can almost buy an air mattress for the cost of one nights roll away. Plus we can use it in other traveling.

 Sorry Corrus, I'm actually not "screaming", it is in Walt Disney font and I recently found out that if you don't have Walt Disney font installed on your computer, you can't see it correctly, or should I say, the way that it was intended. Does it appear in all caps to you?

Thanks everyone who replied. We've decided to change resorts and go with Pop Century. I know it's a lot less room, but it's also a lot less money. We don't plan on being in the room except for sleeping and bathing, so I think we'll be fine. I'll find some way to fit an air matress in there even if I have to stick it on the ceiling and put velcro on my DS5. :D :animwink:
