How much do you usually tip Mousekeeping per day?

It isn't. It is more of a courtesy than anything else. tipping is not required nor expected. It is sort of a small bonus for the Mousekeeper. They do not get bent if it does not happen. I would venture to guess that many people do not tip them. No big deal. When we stated the "guidlines" it was just the norm for what those of us that do tip use.

I think this is the key point here. No one is telling people that they should or shouldn't tip - we're just saying that we happen to tip and here is the amount our family uses. That gives a ballpark figure so people who choose to tip have an idea of what amount others use.

As a visitor from the UK over many years we tend to leave a $1.00 per day and if WE feel that they they have given good service I will tip them again at the end of the trip. In the UK we tend to tip if we feel the service given was over and above what's expected, I take this with me to the States also and a few times mainly in restaurants have walked out without leaving any tip and quite frankly they didn't deserve it.

You should only tip anyone if you feel comfortable to do so and certainly not feel obliged to do it.

Maybe tipping Mousekeeping should be done the way tipping at restaurants is done. Here's my formula:

If it's a waiter, I give him a flat 15% just because he's a guy, and we rule.

If it's a waitress, it gets a bit more complicated. It's all based on looks. For example, if the waitress rates anywhere from a 1-5, she only gets 10%, regardless of how good of a server she is. Any point over 5, gets her an additional 2%. In other words, a 9 will get her 18%. In the rare instance I come across a solid 10, she could spill scolding hot soup on me, lose my credit card, never refill my drink and spit in my food, but she'd still get 25%. I find this is really the only fair way to do things.

But what if it's a solid 10 waitress at a resteraunt at a DVC resort?

Since when do the men control the tip. I always have the money/credit cards.... I think the waitresses flirt with the guys because they want to give us a break! Let someone else build up your self-esteem for a while! :)

Which part... they paying for stuff, or wanting women to flirt with my husband so I can get a break? I should probably point out that I'm blonde and things go right over my head most of the time.

The paying for stuff.

I don't worry about women flirting with me anymore. I accepted the fact that I was irresistible a few years back.

Too funny. I always cary everything important. We have a deal, if anyone steals my purse, he has to run and tackle the guy. Once in a while he even carries it! (It's more of a vacation bag, it doesn't actually look like a purse) We keep a couple bottles of water, and after a while it gets heavy.
He's adorable too, but he's a little short, and he looks young... so the girls like to hit on him too :)

You're not being a jerk and no one is saying that. At least I hope not. It is not a tipped position but many people do still tip. You're not a jerk for not tipping them. Do you feel like a jerk for not tipping the cashier at the grocery store? No, because it is not a tipped position.

i was curious about this topic since ive only ever heard it mentioned here... a quick search pulled this article...

"But generally speaking I would say the majority of people don't do it. And when you look at it, you know, I hate to say it, but this is not considered a tips position. The housekeepers, unlike the bellmen, are not filling out tip reporting forms," she said.

$1/per person per day & $1/per day.

At the end of my most recent trip, they also received some baklava and a few Coronas which we left in our fridge :ROFLOL:
