How much do CMs make? ($$$$)

Some of us still make more than what's been talked about. You have to ask for it, be worth it, be in the right job, or move into managment.. but, there ARE good paying jobs at Disney!

Don't get me wrong, I wish the pay was higher. Do all of the jobs at WDW require an advanced education or technical skills? Many probably do not. But the jobs do require a high level of committment and dedication that I certainly appreciate when I am there. It is hard to put a price on "dedication", but I can tell you that it is hard to secure employees willing to give it even in much higher paying positions.

Again, Blackride said "Highly skilled" and "technical". It wasn't a slam against CMs. The truth is, you don't ~need~ a college degree or large ammounts of training to run a ride, pick up trash, or serve food. (And, yes, before anyone yells at me, you need SOME training. But we're not brain surgeons or engineers here, folks. It's not the same thing...)

This was my point.

My point in this is that people usually say that they are underpaid and not the other way around. Until you can take a look at it from a non-emotinal stand point this discussion is based on feelings not facts and figures which is what I was going for. You need to take a look at all other amusment park jobs ans compare the salaries and then you can see what "market price" is.

Please dont think I am slamming the CM's because I AM NOT. Every time I go to Disney I have a great time so I am NOT slamming them at ALL.

That's a shame... Thanks from everyone here in Rhode Island. I come from a military family, my uncle is Adjutant General of the RI National Guard and my nephew just joined the Army!

God bless you!:animwink:

It's an unappreciated skill to take crap and abuse from the public and not let it affect your ability to provide excellent service to all the good guests. Just because someone is not a doctor or quantum physicist does not give you the right to demean them by saying it’s OK to pay people a pittance. I find it hard to picture how someone can have a decent quality of life on $7 an hour. You definitely won’t find compassion in a ledger.

How am I demeaning anyone? OVER AND OVER I say this is not to put people down. Read my posts and you will see this.

Nobody makes you work at Disney for $7.00 a hour. Find another job if you want to make more money. This is how the free economy works! I think more than just myself has said on this post that it does not take a college grad to run these rides. This is NOT putting people down its just the facts. For years this has been proven since not every worker has a college degree.

You know what you are right! Lets pay everyone $30.00 per hour to do these jobs and watch what happens to the ticket prices! There will be people complaining non stop about the prices of tickets.

I can respect other peoples opinions and discuss this but I sure dont feel that way right now since people dont want to discuss it they just want to make me out to be a villian.....

OK back to the original post :)

I have it in the back of my mind that I could move my family to Orlando, teach full-time then work as a CM during the summer.

I think this is a great idea if you just consider working for Disney as something that you would love to do no matter how much money you are making. The one thing I did notice is that SOL is lower in Florida so houses are nice but affordable.

Back to the original poster - I agree! I live in Southeren California and my DH and I are DYING to move to Orlando. Why? Because we can't afford a house anywhere NEAR here, and we want to stay realtivly near Disney and an ocean! :)

I make about $16.50 out here per hour. I can afford to rent a ROOM in a friend's house. If my DH were single, he wouldn't even be able to afford a roof over his head at the $10 an hour he makes. A gallon of milk last night (non-fat) in the cheapest grocery store in town last night was $4.00! Gasoline? Runs about $2.30 at the CHEAP places. And forget the prices of meat. We're just about veggetarian's here because of it. To even rent an apartment here, it runs about $1000 for a 1 bedroom anywhere you'd want to live. It's SOOOO frustrating! :brick: Young couples like us just can't seem to get ahead here! You know what the "average" house costs in San Deigo area? Earlier this year they were saying around $480,000!!!!!!!!! Yikes! get me outta here!

Sometimes the facts put people down.

For an educated discussion I think the facts are acceptable. Like I said I wanted to discuss this issue with people understanding its a discussion and I dont put emotion into it. It was a pure econ discussion.

LadyDarling - I just went to Sacramento to set up a new call center/servers and I was amazed at the prices of houses. Everything else seemed comprable to what we pay in Ohio but the houses were crazy high priced. I am just nut used to seeing houses that cost $150,000 in ohio costing $300,000 in California. My wife and I are fortunate to make a great living but I could not help but wonder how some of the people in the call centers I was setting up could afford to live in a house there.

I think that moving to another state would help you get your feet off the ground and I wish you luck...

Yikes, this is kind of a tough thing to talk about without insulting the CMs.

I think that friendly and helpful CMs do make Disney better, but in the real corporate world unfortunately you are paid for skill. Im afraid the average CM job doesnt require much in the way of skill, but does require a HECK of alot of effort to be good....

Mucho skill with mucho effort = mucho money
Mucho skill with minimal effort = some money
Minimal skill with mucho effort = not much money
Minimal skill with minimal effort = unemployment

Now if the real world WERE Disney, everyone who tried hard would be rewarded.

Oh now, come on, you know as well as I that some Imagineers make $200,000 a year, and some only make $10 an hour. Imagineering is too diverse to put a wage on it. It all depends on who you are and what you do in WDI.
