Again, Blackride said "Highly skilled" and "technical". It wasn't a slam against CMs. The truth is, you don't ~need~ a college degree or large ammounts of training to run a ride, pick up trash, or serve food. (And, yes, before anyone yells at me, you need SOME training. But we're not brain surgeons or engineers here, folks. It's not the same thing...)

thank YOU! I haven't heard that very much in the last year or so.
It's an unappreciated skill to take crap and abuse from the public and not let it affect your ability to provide excellent service to all the good guests. Just because someone is not a doctor or quantum physicist does not give you the right to demean them by saying it’s OK to pay people a pittance. I find it hard to picture how someone can have a decent quality of life on $7 an hour. You definitely won’t find compassion in a ledger.Originally posted by blackride
Its not like these are highly skilled or technical jobs here people. I dont understand why people think that they should get paid so much money for sitting people on rides and so forth.....

I have it in the back of my mind that I could move my family to Orlando, teach full-time then work as a CM during the summer.

This is NOT putting people down its just the facts.
CALIFORNIA is EXPENSIVE! I'm moving to florida when I go to college! D.C. is expensive also!Originally posted by LadyDarling
Back to the original poster - I agree! I live in Southeren California and my DH and I are DYING to move to Orlando. Why? Because we can't afford a house anywhere NEAR here, and we want to stay realtivly near Disney and an ocean!![]()
I make about $16.50 out here per hour. I can afford to rent a ROOM in a friend's house. If my DH were single, he wouldn't even be able to afford a roof over his head at the $10 an hour he makes. A gallon of milk last night (non-fat) in the cheapest grocery store in town last night was $4.00! Gasoline? Runs about $2.30 at the CHEAP places. And forget the prices of meat. We're just about veggetarian's here because of it. To even rent an apartment here, it runs about $1000 for a 1 bedroom anywhere you'd want to live. It's SOOOO frustrating! :brick: Young couples like us just can't seem to get ahead here! You know what the "average" house costs in San Deigo area? Earlier this year they were saying around $480,000!!!!!!!!! Yikes! get me outta here!

I was kidding i hope you know.Originally posted by blackride
For an educated discussion I think the facts are acceptable. Like I said I wanted to discuss this issue with people understanding its a discussion and I dont put emotion into it. It was a pure econ discussion.

not much more than most WDW CM's... there are many different jobs in WDI... heck, there are HOURLY people at WDI. The difference are the fringe benefits... how many other jobs could you announce on a message board that would make people wet their pants.... or allow you to travel from Florida to California to Japan to Paris all in a year... not many
