How many DVC points do you have?

sxeensweet

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
220 at AKV. Just me and the hubby and we go about every other year. So this is plenty for us but may add 25 here and there at different resorts in the future like GFV. :) have I keep in mind how much we have to pay in dues each year and we have A mortgage with DVC so once that is paid off then we can afford a little more in dues. :)

Only 160, Bay Lake Tower, at the moment. But I'm looking to add more.

I love the Boardwalk and Beach Club, and even for Christmas I was able to get in at Boardwalk at the 7 month window. I'm thinking of adding more points. Everyone says two things: (1) Buy where you want to stay; and (2) Buy in the same use month. The month is doable, but I'm really thinking of buying some cheap Vero Beach points even though I don't really want to stay there. The points are cheap (in the $45 dollar range on Timeshare, Inc.). I know the maintenance fees are more than $6 per year right now for Vero Beach, but most of the other places are about $5 per year. By comparison, I think I'm better off there, paying an extra dollar or so per year in maintenance, and being judicious about the 7 month window to get in basically wherever I may want to. There's no guarantees of anything right now, but this seems to make economic sense to us.

Thoughts?

Just bought last year... Started with 120 at AKV but will be adding more this December. We wanted to see how much we really liked it. Now I need more!!!! lol

Crazy question... IF you have 120 at one vacation club, can you just get 50 at another resort? and how does it work when you go to book with the 7 and 11 months.

The 7 and 11 month windows still apply, but now you have 2 separate windows for the 2 contracts. You the 50 points could only be used at the resort they were purchased at in the 11 month window.

I have 200 BLT points. Every time I book a vacation I wish it was 300. Every time I pay dues, I wish it were 100, so it must be about right. :D

We bought 150 at Boardwalk in 1997 and added 150 at Saratoga Springs in 2005, so total of 300. Boardwalk is our favorite and Saratoga our least, but at the time we wanted to add points only Saratoga was available. No problem though because we never book at the time windows, we are "weekend opportunity bookers" - we book sometimes as late as the day before going. Now that we live in Florida we just jump in the car and drive 90 minutes to Disney!:D

Wow! I only have 160 at BLT, but we just bought in during late 2010 and we're in our 20s. We never seem to have enough (been borrowing since 2011) so hopefully we'll be able to add on in a few years.

We have 120 at SSR, we paid 64$ a point through a resale and own them outright. It's all we can afford and allows us a lovely Disney vacation in a 1-2 bedroom every 2-3 years.

If I win powerball tomorrow I will be adding on about 400 points at BCV's :)

How does it work when you buy resale? Will it just work the same as my current points??

There used to be absolutely no difference. We are grandfathered in under the old rules. With the new rules if you buy resale you cannot trade points into RCI, or any none DVC resorts...at least that is how I understand it. I am sure some one can correct me if I am wrong. None of that would deter me from buying a resale again, because we don't really have any plans of using our points elsewhere anyway.

Neither do we. I guess I'm just wondering if they'll show up under our current account online. Like, will they all be under the same account for online booking?

I think it would. When I go online there is absolutely no difference between what I see and what anyone who bought directly sees. But I bought before they changed the rules. I am sure your new contract could be put in with your existing. I guess these are questions for someone smarter than me though...

this, I believe, is correct. i don't think you can use them for the Disney cruises either. not sure on that one. been doing a little research into the resale market. i would only use the points for wdw resorts anyway, so losing out on the other stuff doesn't bother me. plus, from what i understand, the exchange rate on points to rci, and so on, is not great anyway. *shrugs* but i don't know for sure. would have to get a response from someone who has used them to take other trips.

What I've seen, resale doesn't allow points to be used for Cruises or RCI. My question: What about other Disney Resorts? If I wanted to stay at one of the hotels at Disneyland Paris, could I use them there?

Anyone have a brilliant answer to this question?
