How long does it take to "hop" between park?

I am planning my next WDW trip and I just wonder how long it takes to travel between the park. Should I allow upto 1 hr to hop between them?

If you are using Disney transportation then yes, however some parks are easier to get to then others. In going from Epcot to DHS you can walk in less than half an hour and to get from Epcot to MK the monorail will almost always come in at less than an hour.

Welcome aboard

Depends on the time of year, how you're planning to travel (bus, boat, monorail or car) and which parks you're going to / from.

As a rough guide, an hour would be ok for AK - MK, while DHS - EPCOT should take considerably less

Not old, just vintage.

It really depends on which parks you are traveling between. MK and Epcot are on the monorail line so you can get between those parks in about 15-20 minutes. Any trip to Animal Kingdom is going to take a while because AK is on the outskirts of property. Getting to DHS usually requires buses or boats to get to.

I don't think any park to park trip will take quite an hour, but that is a good window of time to leave yourself if you need to get somewhere by a specific time.

From my experience, it takes 30-40 min to park hop. Sometimes you will get lucky and walk right on a bus, if that is the case, it could be as quick as 10 min. Of course all that depends on where you are going (Epcot to DHS is shorter than MK to DAK).

If you're driving a car, it's never more than 5-7 minutes, parking space to parking space, between any park. On top of that, you just need to add on walk/ferry/monorail/tram time from car to gate on each end.

My educated guesses if driving are: anywhere between EP, AK and HS, 20-25 minutes. Any hop (by car) including MK probably 30-40 minutes, depending on how fast you catch the monorail/tram.

Some of the other previously mentioned routes are quick and easy (such as monorail EP to MK), but impractical if driving in, because you have to go back to get your car.

First of all, welcome to the forums! I hope you like it here!

When using Disney Transportation, as has been posted, it depends on a lot of variables. According to the UG (Unofficial Guide to WDW) in general you should allow 45-60 minutes, including wait time, gate to gate. That has also been my experience. The actual transport time is much shorter.

For example, longer lines tend to form in the direction of Epcot (from any park) for dinner time. So although normally you can get from MK to Epcot by monorail in as short as 30 min, you better allow 60 min at that time, because the Loop A monorail (MK to TTC) gets backed up. So does the boat from DHS at that time.

It will rarely be longer than 60 min, unless you are leaving a park at closing. For example if you leave the AK at closing time to go to another park, you have to allow more time.

Car commute times will vary from 15 to 25 minutes or so if it doesn't involve the MK, and 30-40 minutes if it does (a bit longer worst-case).

Although rules of thumb are nice, it's always good to have real data. According to the UG, commute times (gate to gate) are as follows. The first number is typical time, the one in parenthesis is worst-case. Car times are first, followed by Disney Transport times.

To MK:
From - Car - Disney Transport
AK - 37 (48) - 56 (74)
DHS - 36 (46) - 31 (41)
Ep - 36 (46) - 32 (43)

To Epcot:
From - Car - Disney Transport
AK - 16 (17) - 33 (44)
DHS - 19 (24) - 31 (41)
MK - 26 (39) - 39 (51)

To DHS:
From - Car - Disney Transport
AK - 16 (17) - 31 (41)
Ep - 19 (23) - 28 (37)
MK - 21 (29) - 31 (41)

To AK:
From - Car - Disney Transport
DHS - 16 (17) - 37 (41)
Ep - 16 (17) - 44 (59)
MK - 17 (18) - 56 (74)

The UG are continually researching and revising these numbers, so it's worth buying the book every so often to keep up to date. These numbers are from the 2007 edition.

I always feel like the thing that is 'forgotten' when people discuss hopping is the time spent getting from wherever you are inside park #1 to the car or bus stop--and then the flip side--getting from your car/bus stop TO wherever you want to be in park #2.

That can be quite a trip... Are you near the Haunted Mansion when you need to head out to the other park? There's a pretty good walk to the front gate of the MK. Are you trying to get to Canada for dinner? That's a decent walk from either Epcot gate.

For me (with kids 5,7,9), the amount of time AND ENERGY it will take to cover that distance might be considerable. Now, if you're just some youngster in your 20's who is in decent shape, that might be no problem... but it will still take some time to walk those distances...

So very true. There is a very big picture to think of when dealing with transportation at WDW. This is why I rarely hop. By the time yo walk out of a park, catch a tram, drive to another park, get on another tram and make it to the turnstiles you have burned a good half an hour or more under the best of circumstance

KingStefan has some good numbers...though if you drive and have the AAA diamond pass, the times are reduced by about 5-10 minutes. My wife has forbid us from using the Disney transportation ever again, even though we always stay on site.

Example of this, I was driving from downtown Orlando on I-4 and called the wife who was waiting at the CBR bus stop. We would meet at the entrance of the MK. I dove down I-4 onto WDW property, I got to the parking lot, hopped on the monorail, got to the front the MK and called her...She was still waiting for a bus to the MK???? I beat her by about 25-30 minutes!!!! One bus showed up full so she had to wait for a second one?!?! She said never again...
