How likely am I to get a value at AKL the week before Christmas in 2015?

Thinking of renting AKL value studio the week before Christmas in 2015. Thinking 12/18 arrival (late) and leave late 12/23.

Better than someone arriving 12/19. Not as good as someone arriving 12/17.

Seriously, I don't know, but if you're planning to use a rental company to make that happen, then if possible I'd try to make those arrangement with the company before the 11 month window, so they can try to make it happen first thing that morning with anyone with VAK points to rent.

In my haste to respond I misread the year you were inquiring about, thought it was 2014 not 2015. Like @dreamfinder said, if you find an AKL owner @ the 11-month mark you probably can get in on the value action. If it were me I'd start some communication with David's or the DVCRentalStore this Fall to see if they can start asking around sooner than later so when the 11-month window rolls around the DVC owner can just pull the trigger and reserve your room rather than the broker trying to secure a point owner at the 11-month mark then hoping some value rooms are left.

Thank you! I have to get my husband to sit down and talk about it first. He hates to plan things out that far in advance.

In that case, I'd suggest looking into travel insurance. Your DVC point rental will almost guaranteed be non-refundable (at least through the brokers), so you may want that security if he decides to change his mind.

No one gets value unless you own AKL it is very tough to get. But there is always a chance
Well the idea is she'll rent points from someone who can book at the 11 month window. Her odds at that point are as good as anyone else who can book at the 11 month window. IF she can arrange beforehand for someone to try to book on her behalf right on the day in question.

I priced out Fall Break and Christmas (both before and after actual Christmas day). It is actually cheaper if we stay at AKL during the five days before Christmas. Any other time frame we are better off just staying at a Value Resort. My hubby has said he just wants it cheap (ha!) and so I imagine we will wind up going Fall Break and staying at Pop. We've stayed there on 2 of our 3 previous trips and enjoyed it so will be okay. I just really wanted my daughter to see WDW at Christmas. :(

If cost is the prime motivating factor, then yes. Normally, a DVC member can extol the virtues of how much bigger your rooms in a DVC studio are compared to a room at a Value resort like Pop, but of course the Value Studios at VAK aren't all that spacious, either, even though they're still bigger (316 sq. ft. about the size of most moderate resort rooms versus 260-ish feet at Pop), and you're getting many more amenities available to you, nicer grounds, etc. But if it boils down to money, there you go.

That's unfortunate because the holidays are lovely at WDW.
