How far in advance is too far in advance

I'm looking to take a trip to WDW in May of '08. Is there any point in even looking for deals now? How far in advance will they book and how likely am I to get a deal?

I know airlines book only 330-some odd days in advance...

Would love some advice so I'm not wasting my time.

Thanks in advance!:)

We do the same as far as booking far in advance - just gets it on the calendar. After that we just check back with AAA etc and reschedule if needed to get discounts.

You're probably not going to start seeing any real deals until after Christmas. It's not too early to plan...but I don't think you're going to see too many deals this far out.

If you call WDW or the airlines to book and they say they can't book that far out, you're too early. Otherwise, all trips are refundable within certain time frames. Book what you can to get what you want and keep watching for better deals. In the case of airlines, your flights can and most likely will change as you get closer, be it the size of the plane (thus changing your reserved seats out from under you) or the times, or as we dealt with last year, both....twice...within 2 weeks.

Booking early means accepting the fact that you're not done with the reservations. But you know you have reservations that will be honored by the vendor!:sohappy:

Find a discount with AAA for the rooms as soon as they are available and book it there. Disney doesn't do too many discounts and they can't be counted on.... But at least you will have a reservation with some sort of discount through AAA.

As for flights... you need to know in advance what a good range is for airfare. As for me... I know if the round trip ticket is around or under $200 for flights from DC to Orl... then I will grab those tickets when they come up. So hopefully you know what reasonably good offers are on flights. Prices will fluctuate up and down as the year progresses towards you trip date. Don't be alarmed if 11 months out you see prices higher than you are used to... they will likely go down with time.

I don't think the 08 rates have been released, but if they have then check out discounts. If you find one then go ahead and grab it. Then keep looking. Just keep an eye on how late you can back out of the reservation incase you find a better deal.

Its not a bad idea to start looking and see what you can find. I know how you feel, my next trip isn't until April 08 and I know my family is really excited about going and it coming up with where they want to eat so when the 180 day comes around we can call and make reservations. Just look every once in a while and see if you find anything, you never know!

It sucks having to wait, I wish I lived a little closer.

I remember we tried to book more than a year in advance and weren't able to. I might be making this up.... but i'm pretty sure we had to wait until August or at least July to book our trip for this August.

I feel the same way, I wish we lived closer too.

What is killing me is that my baby sister is going again this Oct and we are waiting a whole year later. We were all there at the same this past Oct and it was fun knowing that they were there too. Her husband (Hi, if you are reading this!) is a Disney Freak too. Last year I was able to save us a lot of money at the last minute and I have been on here trying to find them a good deal for this Oct. It is really just an excuse that I use to read about Disney to keep the Magic alive!

Wow!

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. Such a nice friendly bunch!:sohappy:

I actually have the money for the trip already set aside, so I'm good there. Not an extravagant budget but we should do okay. My hubby gets a fairly large bonus every year and he's always saying we'll go back to WDW but something (financial) always comes up and the money just dribbles away. This year I opened a separate checking account and wrote myself a check the day the bonus money went in the bank. He knows if he so much as looks at it I'll brain him! :ROFLOL:

Even so I'll breath easier once I have something booked. We don't belong to AAA. Is it worth enrolling for the discounts?

Thanks for all the input!

I saved nearly $1000 by booking with AAA, so in my opinion, $60 a year is worth saving that much! You can use their service for so many other things! My AA travel agent, actualyl called me a week after I got back to ask me if everything was up to my expectations!

Wow! That is definitely worth it. Will look into that! Thanks!

Edit Note: Just went to AAA website. Question: is there a certain level I should be joining at?
