How EMH's work?

When attending night time EMH how do they determine resort guests from non guests? I assume they need a resort ID but do they need one for everyone in the party including kids? We normally don't carry the younger kids ID's in the park?
Thanks for the help.

Resort guests who wish to stay in the park after closing and take part in EMH will need to obtain a wristband. Each member of your party who has a ticket (any guest over age 3) will need to show their resort ID, which will be scanned to ensure it is valid. Non-resort guests can stay in the park, but will not be able to ride attractions without a wristband. So, they can eat or shop. Hope this helps!

On EMH days, you receive a wristband in order to stay at the park's evening EMH. Usually after 4:00 PM there are stations in the park, you show your resort ID and they put a wristband on you. After the parks regular closing hours, you show your ID to the CM at the attraction and they let you in line. If you don't have an ID you are directed to the exit (very nicely) but you are directed to the exit. Our kids are older, 21, 19 and 17 so they carry their own resort ID so that they can charge food as necessary. Our kids have had charging privileges since they were 9. We've actually had them "pay" for dinner with their ID. The CM's were terrific about treating them like adults when they were young.

Respectfully, I disagree with this explanation of evening EMH procedures.

Evening EMH wristband distribution starts precisely 2 hours before the park's public closing time. It's not a set time on the clock for every day, such as 4:00 p.m. ... it's 100% based on that park's public closing time on that day. So if Magic Kingdom closes to the public at 10:00 p.m., EMH wristband distribution will not begin until 8:00 p.m.

Nowadays, unless they are short of equipment or something, you can't just show your resort ID to get a wristband -- they actually scan it with a hand-held scanner. And you can't just go up to them with a handful of cards -- they do it for each person, and the CM (almost always) places the wristband onto each individual's wrist.

I've never heard of showing your resort ID to an attractions CM to gain access to that attraction. No wristband = no ride. You can't just flash your ID.

Another thing. Under no circumstances are people asked to leave the park. Day guests are still permitted in an evening EMH park, but they aren't permitted on/in the rides/attractions. If they want to hang around and bore themselves then that's their business, but they are not directed to leave the park.

I'm truly not trying to be critical ... just trying to be helpful by sharing accurate information.:)

I'm not sure what you mean. Children 2 and under don't require a ticket to enter the park, and in fact don't even have tickets. But children 3-9 need a ticket to gain admission to the park at the turnstiles, so how on Earth can you get the kids into a park if you don't have their IDs with you??? And of course, kids 10+ are considered adults as far as Disney's policies and pricing go.

Not everyone has their ticket on their room key. If they have two separate cards they don't always know they have to bring along the room keys that the younger ones got for EMH.

Several times I've been to Evening EMH and guests without wristbands have been gently herded towards the exit from the back of the parks especially at MK

Coaster is right on the money, We rented a DVC, so the tickets we bought are not attached to the resort ID. The kids are 5-13 so they have no need to carry 5 extra room keys.

I agree. I believe they used to let guests stay, just not be able to ride the rides, but that has changed along with hard ticket after hours events. CM's walk parade routes and are stationed at entrances to theme areas, ask for your armband, and if you don't have it, they ask you to head back to Main Street.
