How does this sound?

So I haven't been to WDW in about 4 years. I went back to school and then after I graduated, I bought my first home. So now what I want to do is treat myself and DD16 to a trip to WDW! We can't go until April 2014, because at this age DD does not want to miss too much school. She is willing to skip a couple days, we plan to do a total of 10.

Our favorite resort is AKL then Poly, but I know those would be costly during this time. We have stayed at POP and enjoyed it thoroughly. So wouldn't mind staying there again. But hoping for some sort of discount. Wondering is there any free dining plans usually offered during this time? Or just any type of discount, perhaps?

I can't help with the discount question, just wanted to say congrats on your graduation! WDW is a great way to treat yourself after all that hard work! I went to WDW for my high school & college graduation, went to Hawaii for my masters though.

Chance of discount, sure. Sounds like you're looking around Easter 2014, which is a popular week, so prices will be higher for rooms and discounts less likely.

You can see past discounts here: http://www.mousesavers.com/historical-information-on-walt-disney-world-resort-discounts/

Since you're looking in April, keep in mind when Easter was in previous years when looking at past discounts as well, since the date changes year to year for the holiday.

Easter is April 20 in 2014. The week leading up to Easter will be considered a "holiday week" and have holiday crowds. You won't get many discounts that week and if your plan is to go that week then book as soon as you can because rooms will fill up quick. If your plans are not that week then you might be able to get some discounts. I am not familiar with free dining. Someone else can chime in on that, but it seems to be offered in the fall and it seems to be offered with a deluxe resort. At least the one with a sit down meal. Remember that if you are not going to spend any time in the room get a value room instead. We only use to room to shower and sleep so we save the money. If you plan to use what the resort has to offer then a nicer room is worth it.

We have found that anytime after Presidents day and through Easter is considered spring break time and prices are generally up and the discounts extremely few. After Easter and up until the 2nd week of June things are less crowded and discounts or sometimes free dining tend to appear. Watch out for Memorial Day weekend crowds are outrageous.

Any chance of going at the end of summer? There are most discounts and lower crowds. If she doesn't start school until after Labor Day, you could go right before that.

Here is a list of when AKL is the cheapest. http://www.mousesavers.com/2013-animal-kingdom-lodge-room-rates-season-dates/

Can't take too much of the heat here in Upstate NY during summer, so I know I can't do it in FL. Even though I know it will be hot in April, that would be more welcome after coming out of a NY winter.

We are looking to go from the 11th-21st. With those dates in mind, we are looking at either POP or Art of Animation.

You're going during Easter Week. One of the busiest weeks. Book as early as you can. If your dates are already set in stone, book now. There probably won't be many discounts for that time, but keep an eye out and if there are Disney will apply the discount to your room.
