How does D.land's compensation for new CMs contrast with this?

It’s much different, but again, I don’t expect you to understand. I’ve actually done both traditional college and the Disney College Program and can attest to the different experiences. Again, it’s more than just food insecurities and I’m speaking about a larger principle. I’m not going to get into what exactly I’m talking about because I’m sure I’m going to be gaslit and my experiences will be dismissed.

I don’t have a chip on my shoulder. I encourage every person who wants to do the DCP to do it. Again, good for your daughters. And the roommates as well. Cool beans.
I'm not looking to dismiss your experience in any way. I am just trying to understand how it is different. If you don't want to discuss it that is fine, but I am not one to gaslight anyone or anyone's views. I would Iove if you would send me a private message and we could have a conversation about it. I apologize for assuming you have a chip on your shoulder but your your first post in this thread was pretty direct.

I don't get why that poster is discrediting your own real life experiences. It's not like someone's gonna make up a story like this for fun.
It’s a common habit of those who can’t fathom said experiences, have no first-hand experience, have had opposite experiences, and lack compassion. It’s mostly the lacking compassion part.

Am I the poster you are speaking of? I didn't discredit anything she said. I actually appreciate her input and really enjoy her posts on this site. I just asked her for clarification because a lot of us were broke in college. Also a lot of people do the CP on both coasts and love it.

Wow that is assuming a lot. Maybe you should see my reply to your previous post. I was actually curious about why your experience was so bad. I still value your posts on the site quite a bit because you do make good input. We may not agree on everything but we do agree on most things. Keep being you. (Still open to the direct conversation if you want to tell me).

Okay, wait. Are we talking about being a poor college student while having a part-time job at a theme park? o_O

It seems like we are talking about that. That is not anything unusual. Most college students are poor, unless their parents are idiots who want to raise idiot children, or parents who bought their kids' way into college like all those nutty C List celebrities did a few years ago.

College students are supposed to live off Top Ramen and mac n' cheese. They are supposed to get creative with potatoes and rice. They are supposed to scrounge up change from the dorm sofa to afford the beer for Saturday. That's what college is, for almost everyone. Even if you work at Disneyland.

That said, TDA really cheaps out on their employee food service and employee amenities, as this thread has shown yet again. Let's not forget, those pitiful employee amenities aren't just for the 20 year old college kids with only 8 months of seniority. They are also for the lifelong CM's with 40 years of seniority who gave their life to Walt's park, they are for the Dockers-clad managers who have to smile for the ridiculous ribbon cutting ceremony by a TDA exec, they are for the Jungle Cruise skipper who has the best timing and jokes or for the security guard who gave CPR to an elderly woman in Downtown Disney last week and prevented her from dying.

They all get greasy chicken strips and limp fries for lunch, and have to sit in an ugly uncomfortable break area and pay $2 for a Coke.

You're 100% right. My wife and I are in our 20s and are phone savvy, but Disney's sole reliance on constant phone usage is super annoying. We don't want to plan and check a phone every 5 minutes.

It's exactly what families should not be doing on their vacation, or during their leisure hours. That Burbank and TDA have let it get this far is a huge mistake on their part.

If I see one more QR code to scan instead of being handed a proper menu, I'm going to lose it. :hungover:

When the Disneyland app was used only to show wait times, that's all it should've ever been for. The constant tracking of dining reservations, fast passes, virtual queues, park reservations, mobile orders... It's just too much.

My hunch is that they are saving money by doing it this way and by making us spend our time scanning QR codes and checking Apps and swiping up and down. No menus, fewer CM's, no ticket stock, all run by an IT staff paid pennies per hour in Bangalore, it adds up and saves TDA a bunch on supply ordering and paying Americans to be middle class.

This is all this is about. Saving some pennies for TDA while the actual in-park customer experience gets worse and more mundane.

The mobile order thing never saves me time, it just adds more layers of complexity.

Cooking a hot dog or cheeseburger in a theme park is not rocket science. TDA is pretending that it is rocket science and thus you need rocket science to make it go faster. It doesn't work. At some point, some 20 year old kid still has to put the burger patty on the grill and pour some Coke in a cup and slide it through the window so you can pay $15 for $3 worth of food.

TDA is pretending their core amusement park business is rocket science. It is not. Even when you overpay for it at Disneyland. Via an App.
