How do you save for your WDW gettaways?

Just curious of the funny or creative ways that people save money throughout the year so they can go back home to WDW.

Personally, I do little things like always pack a lunch at work or try to manage how much I spend at the Disney store :)

No matter what, it never seems like I can get back there enough. I wish I could go at least 3 times a year, actually I wish I lived in Mickey's house in Toontown Fair :)

Its hard, well for me as a university student it is anyways!
Right now im putting a little bit of every pay away, extra change in a bottle, and saving bottles and cans (I live in residence on campus, and youd be surprised how many bottlels/cans you go through)!

Thats all i can do right now, ohh and my income tax will be a big help as well.
Were hoping to book about 9 months before our next trip and paying little bits each month!

I'm a bad boy. I borrow money against the line of credit on my house and pay it back little by little as I can after the trip.

Nearly all of mine and the wife's overtime goes into the Disney fund. It gets used for other things as well but Disney eats up a good 80%.

I make and sell candles. I'm going in Oct. with my best friend and have already saved enough for my whole trip (minus spending) just since the first of the year! I'm going to use my Disney Visa rewards points for my spending money. Hoping to have around $200 in rewards points by the time we go!

Throw your pocket change in a jug every time you get some.

I just cashed in $435 yesterday!

I don't know how it adds up that fast, but it does! I'll be taking it on my cruise next week to indulge in stuff I normally would never pay for!! Works the same way for my Disney trips!

HAPPY SAVING!

:)

That is AWESOME :sohappy: I try this and my husband takes all my silver. (brat)
I have relocated the change jar to an unknown location so he can no longer this.

Our income tax return is always spent on disney. Everything is paid in full as soon as we get it that way it cant be spent on anything else. Spending we just save here and there through the year

We have a vacation fund at the DH's credit union. They money comes out before he gets his check so we don't miss it.

There have been numerous threads on this and a quick search should bring them up. People have some of the most inventive ways of saving!

1) We have always collected Aluminum cans from friends and family and that gets a little.
2) I put in any mileage $ I get each month from my work. This is not much either but it helps.
3) Started taking online surveys and that has brought in a little here and there.
4) I opened an online savings account which offered me $25 to open :sohappy: and it saves a little change each month. Mostly it keeps my Disney money out of my hands.
5) Other than that I try to put a little in the fund from any sidework I might get.

Since the first of the year we have saved up just over $300. Every bit helps!:sohappy:

Disney Visa rewards and a change jar pretty much paid for this past trip. We're hoping to go again for Christmas in 2009, so I started using the Visa again for more points =)

A flip side to the coin is minimizing costs of going so you don't have to save as much. You can't control ticket prices, but you can save a lot of money by staying in a cheap motel, like the Howard Johnson, or by camping. Also, driving in a carpool down there and sharing a room saves a lot of money. I drove 20 hours both ways since it was cheaper than flying and renting. Not spending money on souveneirs can save hundreds of dollars.

I have $50/paycheck put in a 'Christmas fund' at my bank that I can't touch until 12/1 - considering I leave for "The World" on 12/3 - I have PLENTY of spending money that way. As far as my actual vacation - tax return!

I do this too. All the change in my pockets go into the jar at the end of every day. My Family know that the jar is strictly off limits for dipping into! It goes towards our spending money when we're away, last year it added up to 1100 euros!!

That's a good idea, I should get a Disney Visa, what kind of stuff can you use your reward points on?

These posts have been great by the way!
