How do you handle cruise photos?

We're in full on cruise mode at our house this weekend....flying out Thursday and sailing on Saturday! So, we're full of last minute questions. This is our third time on DCL but its been a few years and those first two were before the kiddo came along. Anyway, wondering how you all handle the cruise photos. Does anyone out there buy them? Better to purchase the cd in advance or just buy what you want onboard?

Thanks again!

Oh yeah....for character photos, will the cast members shoot with my camera if I hand off?
We take photos here and there. If we don't like them, we don't buy. Yes, they will use your camera for pictures. I've even had their pros use my cam after they did the official ones.

Bought CD and prints during cruise last month on the Fantasy. Yeah, it is expensive. This was just our second Disney cruise in 3 years. Time does not wait for our crew, so we got the entire package on board, not in advance. Yes we took advantage of every single photo-op possible, so we ended up with many on our disc.

There's no price break to buy the CD in advance, so I'd just wait and see how many you get.
The pros aren't supposed to take pictures with your camera, I've never seen them say yes, although it could certainly happen. Hand the camera to the character handler or person in line behind you if not. :)

We bought 2 8 x 10s from our cruise last week. We had several others in our folder with Mickey, Donald, Belle and Chip N Dale, but I also had those ones taken on my camera as well, so no need to buy all those. I bought the one of my sister and I from Pirate Night and she bought one of her, my mother and myself on the staircase. Those were the best two. I'm sorry but the price for all the photos ($229 on the 4 night) is INSANE!! I feel like I would have to spend all my time getting photos taken to justify the price!

The cast member who is the greeter for the character will take a picture on your camera for you, if you would like them to. The actual photographer cannot take a picture on your own personal camera though. You'd have to buy their pictures.

One Little Spark...
Others have addressed this...so I won't rehash, outside of touching on something that @Disneyfalcon mentioned...

There's no price break to buy from Shutters early. So, don't. I'd wait until the last day and see how many pictures you actually have.

I'm glad I didn't pre-purchase...we only ended up with 4, as I recall. The single and group shots they take when you board, the meet and greet with Stitch and our dinner at Animators Palette.

For that price...it really wouldn't have been worth it...to me. But, if we had a lot of amazing pictures, I certainly would have shelled out for it!
