We try and go every three years and partically this is because of cost... I know cost can be what you make of it... offsite or standard/moderate/deluxe Resorts... I read of these two week stays and I think.. how ? We're looking at 8n/9d / BLT / MKV .. airline and tickets (PH of course) for 5 and cha ching!!! This does not even include eating ... I'm just courious on what people spend to go here ... The trip reports are great but then I think 'What did that cost?"

it's MUCH easier when they're in elementary. Now that my DS is in middle school- with 8 teachers/classes- there is NO WAY we can have him miss 8 days of school. I study his math at home so I can help him with his homework and that's just ONE class:jawdrop:. It becomes less of a vacation for the kid when he knows he's got mounds of make-up work when we get home:(, so now we go during breaks as well- it kinds sucks, but we're still on vacation!

Around $5k for Disney plus $3k more for Universal for a total of 24 days for 2 people; when I stop to do the math I get a little wide-eyed but in the end it's all worth it, it's our favorite time of the year. Our biggest money sucker are our plane tickets, that can (and often do) run over the $2k mark, it's a tremendous amount of money when you stop to think about it.

we spent 11 days at BWI one year- signature dining every night. No airfare- we live less than 3 hours drive. That trip was a once in a lifetime $13,000:jawdrop:. That also included a surprise piece of jewelry from Wyland :). It WAS wonderful- but foolish- we have had vacations just as wonderful for less than half!

IF it were up to me it would be well over 6k :P But we have a timeshare 5 minutes outside of Disney (with firework views) and we stay there for free and we can get discounted tickets through them so we mainly pay for gas and food (we drive, only flew to Orlando once with my mom) I guess once you consider all the upgrades they have "tricked" us into getting with our timeshare...our Disney trips cost well over 20k ;)

We drive but that's because we live 3.5 hours away. We will also go more than once a year. We'll go for a long weekend a few times a year. They are usually 3 maybe 4 days. We go in the small car which saves fuel. We stay a value resort because we spend every minute we can in the parks. We take sandwiches with us so that saves money. For birthdays and such we'll get gift cards to chain restaurants so we save them for Disney. We're not big on eating out especially at chain restaurants. The more I eat at them the less I like them, but they are free food so it helps out. Since we go often we don't buy souveniers either.

Probably academic and or sports team/extracurricular concerns. We also will be taking our last trip to the world next year for this very reason. After that time DD will be in middle school and schoolwork will be too heavy to take her out for a week and I refuse to go during peak season and in the heat of the summer.

When your kids are in school, you are in school with them. You need to get up with them and make sure they get up in time and get ready. You have to be sure to get them on time or to the bus stop. You're helping them with homework. etc. When they are younger you can afford to pull them out of school for a couple of day but when they are older they are covering material that most of us have forgotten. I was a gifted student in school and even I had trouble without the teacher's explanations whenever I missed a day, especially with math.

We are also a family of 5 ( hubby, me and 14 y/o. triplets). We stay at the All Star Music Family suites. Having two bathrooms is a lifesaver. With airfare and dining plan we are looking at $6,100. In the past my budget had been $5K but this is because I had been lucky enough to get free dining. I have a cousin who is a family of 5 as well, they generally get two adjoining rooms instead of the suite as it is cheaper according to her. When the kids were 5 we stayed at Old Key West in a gorgeous town house ...that was an 8k trip.

It's gotten more and more expensive for us each year but it depends on specials, how long your staying, where your staying...We've ranged from $2700 to this upcoming trip being $4400.

We're sort of realizing this now - DS14 just started ninth grade, and maybe planning a WDW trip for a non vacation time in October wasn't the best idea. But hey, I didn't know when we planned it! From now on, we'll be good. We just wanted avoid the hot/crowded times. Well, we'll manage, the hard part will be telling his teachers why he's missing a week of school. It's only five days he's missing, but there'll still be some homework to keep up with, and probably a couple of missed quizzes or tests.

BTW, there's no Fall break from school where we are - just one day for Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving and the Friday after. It's a pretty long stretch with just a couple of days off aside from the weekend.

We spend a little less than $4,000 for 6 days/5 nights, 2 adults, 2 kids, for airfare from upstate NY, hotel (moderate Disney resort or comparably-priced DVC deluxe studio rental, during a non-peak time of year), food (Pop tarts in the room for breakfast, counter service lunch and table service dinner each day) and park (6-day hopper) tickets. Future trips will cost even less as I now have a credit card that gets me enough airline points to fly for free, saving us $1,000-$1,400 on airfare.

our June trip was 4k but it was for 13days and we are DVC so i didn't count the room.. Food was our biggest $$ and we paid outa pocket and saved instead of the DDP. My daughter and I are going back in December while the guys go hunting.. we are at 1k for 4 nights and it includes DDP and flights.. also using points for the room.

Our previous trip was right at $4000 for a 7 night trip for 2 adults and 1 kid. The longest trip we ever did. We stayed offsite (with 1 night at POP), bought discounted tickets and bought food on our own.

In 09' our trip cost $2400 for 2 adults, 2 teens, & of course our 8 month old was free at POP. The promo at that time was buy 4 nights get 3 free. Last year we went in Sept. With just our DD4 & it was about $3500. We got free dining, stayed at AOA in a LMR, & got decent prices to fly. This year we are driving for our 1st Christmas time visit & we will have us, DD5, DD20, & DGS1 staying at CBR with free dining & it will probably compare to last year's trip.

It can be done. Our Trip in October is not overly expensive, or maybe it is. We probably could cut down the Hopper pass to 5 days (one day at HHN / last day we go home late) but that would really only save us but it would only save us roughly $20 a person. But for

All Star Music - 7 nights (Preferred Room)
Jet Blue Roundtrip (HFTD - Orlando) - Total 785 a person

MNSSHP - 70 a person

HHN (w Park tixs / Fast pass) 246.05 a person

7 Day hopper pass (AAA) 371.50 a person

Plus Food/ Wine ????


Total : $1472.55
