This looks similar to a circuit I'm working on at the moment. Infra-red photo diode to enable a micro-controller to fire what looks like a capacitor discharge circuit.... but hey... don't hold me to it :wave:

PS. mkt, when you say it's a mix of both RF and IR, do you mean the IR has been modulated so it can reach everyone?
