How bad would it be?

I wonder how out of control crowds would be for a quick trip to WDW arriving on 1/1/13 and checking out on 1/6/13. I know 1/1 would be a madhouse, but most of that day would be spent travelling for us anyway. Do you think things might ease a bit as the week goes on?

The whole first week of January is usually a pretty busy one but the further you get from the 1st, the more the crowds tend to ease up. It would be pretty packed but that shouldn't stop ya! :)

I know. We're from such a rural area that going somewhere with huge crowds is a bit intimidating for us. We dont' even live in town and when we go to town a traffic jam for us would be 4 cars at the only traffic light.

We were there for New Year's this past year. New Year's Day was not as bad as you would expect. NYE was beyond insane. The crowd was much smaller the next day, especially in the morning. Use lots of fast passes and hope that everyone goes home on Jan 1.

That's exactly what we're hoping for if we do this!

somebody else said it, but I was there as well for this past new year's. The crowds were not as bad as I was expecting at all. The worse was NYE at epcot, as you can imagine, that was insane

You should see a considerable drop in crowds from 1/1/13 to 1/6/13. I'd think January 1 will be crowded, with people getting in one last full day in before leaving. Crowds might be light in the morning, with everyone having stayed up late the night before. I suspect people will start heading out on January 2 (a Wednesday) and crowds should be much more modest by that evening. There is some support for this in WDW resort pricing. The evening of January 1 has peak holiday pricing while the evening of January 2 has value pricing.

I think a lot depends on what day of the week NYE falls out on. Last year NYE was on a Saturday, so my guess is that most people were there the week leading up and headed home on Sunday (1st) or Monday (2nd) so that they didn't take off as much time from work or miss much school. With NYE being on a Monday this year, you might see more people come in a day or 2 before and stay the following week.

We will be there the same days and hope to see a drop after the 1st as well. Touring plans shows a slight drop on Thur and then of course a significant drop on Sun through the next week :) No matter how crowded I hope you have a magical time!

Ha! Epcot is where we started for NYE. It got so crowded that we ended up back at the Polynesian. We hung out at the pool bar and watched the MK fireworks from there. Great way to do it!
