How bad is Easter/Spring Break at WDW?

My family of 3 (me, the hubs, and our 6-year old daughter) will be taking our very first trip to WDW the last week of March. We will actually arrive on Easter day. Due to my husband's business and my daughter's school schedule this was the only week we could go, but I've heard that the crowds around Easter-time/spring break are intense.

We have already booked ADRs and FastPasses and i've read up on smart touring plans for high crowd days so I THINK we are somewhat prepared, but I'm still a bit nervous about exactly how many people we can expect to be in the parks, wait times for rides and meals, etc. I'm also slightly worried about the possibility of getting separated from my kid in the huge crowds.

Has anyone been at that time that can give me some insight on what to expect from the crowd levels? Any tips for dealing with high-volume crowds at WDW (especially with a 6-year-old)? If the crowds are really big, would it be better to drive ourselves to the parks or still take the buses (I'm worried about long waits to catch a bus)?

Thanks for your help!

May is one of my fav times here. Flower & Garden is ending (first of May) and crowds are not bad at all. Temps will be getting hot

Planning for 2017 so wanting to not miss out on Pandora and Volcano Bay by a week or two and that's swaying it a little bit towards June (I know you should never bank on opening dates but I've watched this thing get built for what seems like forever so I want to maximise my chance of seeing it  )

What sort of typical wait times should I be expecting for May?

I'm thinking about stopping by for a day in about a week. Of course I know the crowd calendar suggests big crowds, but I'm not too concerned. It's a random spur of the moment day trip. I'm from NJ, so I don't get a chance to go often (even though I was just there in December haha). One full day at MK, so if the crowds are big, it is what it is.

We did march 22-28 last year and we had no issues. Since we live locally we are used to the New crowds so maybe it's the norm for us these days. We were at Epcot this past weekend and the crowds were not bad, then headed over to the MK for a few hours again not bad.

We check in to the VGF on the 20th we plan to just do our fast passes then head back for relaxation each day.

Then you missed the worst of it. We checked in on Easter (April 5) and that week was a madhouse!

Last year was a blur for me all I remember was unpacking the car, dumping everything in the room, and grabbing our DVC van over to SSR, and the next thing I know my wife and I are buying DVC after that was were planning our next 2 vacations to start using our points.

My advice for Easter trips, assuming you are going for more than a day, is to avoid the Magic Kingdom on Easter Sunday, expect solid crowds at each park each day and enjoy your vacation. When we were there last on an Easter trip, the other parks were busy but not "crazy-busy" on Easter Sunday while the Magic Kingdom was insanely busy.

However, the other days of our trip, the Magic Kingdom was busy but you could enjoy attractions and parades without feeling like you were a sardine packed into a can.

I'm thinking of tacking a couple days on to our beach vacation March 11-13, 2017. All the boards rate this week as super busy, but nobody can actually tell me why. Easter is April 16, so shouldn't be school Spring Break. Is it college break or something?
