I think that for customer relations sake, Disney should really consider re-thinking the whole mug rule anyway...

I mean, the people who have bought the resort mugs have already spent a lot of money on Disney property already, and fountain drinks really cost them next to nothing. I really don't think it would harm Disney's bottom line to allow the re-use of resort mugs, and I'm quite sure the guests would be happier.

 "The Mom" Break the rule ?? what rule??? When you buy the mugs they tell you you can use them, and continue to use them when you come back. That is one of the selling points.

I have never had a problem with this when staying at the same resort. It was just using them at another one. As a matter of fact when we stayed at Dixie Landings and Port Orleans last time after they made it one resort we bought new ones.

The CM's told us we should/could have used the old ones!! "WHY" buy new ones.? Also, that we could continue to use either of them until the policy changed. Which they did not think it would as the guests like it and it is good customer relations. Besides it costs them pennies for the fountain drinks, if that.

I got the answer to my question when I was there. I guess all of you will have to decide for yourselves what to do when you go. We did see several other resort mugs being used at the All Star Resorts. Like I said the CM's ( three different ones) told me it was Ok if it was a resort mug, just not one from the parks. ( we saw several different ones being used )

We only use it maybe once a day anyway, but if you have more than two in your family it can be a savings. We sure do spend a lot for everything else when we are there hum???

I do not really think this is on the same plane as your taking care of your dad when he was ill---- Sorry

I agree, and the parks should have some sort of "Length of stay mugs" as well. I know the water parks do it on a daily basis, but even that gets pricey.

At this point, I don't think WDW is losing money on the mugs. As someone mentioned, people will spend the money saved on something else instead. And I do think it is a wonderful idea, although I don't utilize it myself. I'm just concerned that the day will come when, due to people's different interpretation of the "rule" (including CMs) it will become too costly, and will be discontinued.

Prior to the internet, there weren't enough people aware of some of the "loopholes" (no matter how legal) in the "rules" to have much of an affect on WDW profits. This is changing more and more as people figure out ways to get around rules without actually breaking them, or without being caught, and they share that information with hundreds of others. (The old "If they really, really meant for you to follow a rule they would do a better job of enforcing it, and would make sure that NO CM ever made an exception, and ALL CMs would have to be aware of ALL rules in their area." argument );)

Again, I am not criticizing anyone who ASKS a WDW employee a specific question about something they are not sure is allowed, or for clarification of a certain policy, (such as, can I use these mugs on my next trip?)and they act based upon that information. I'm criticizing the people who take the "Well, if so and so did it, and no one said anything, it must be OK for me to do it, too!" attitude, or the "Anything not specifically prohibited must be allowed." line of reasoning.

Before I say anything I want to remind everyone that this is something that I heard. While I was in WDW one of the other guests there mention that the coke products that disney sells does not cost disney anything due to it being a sponser deal. If that is so I don't see why the mug is a big problem seeing as how they would be getting 100% profit margin on this. Again it is just something that I heard. If anyone can confirm or deny this please do so.

Refillable Mugs

I was also told that you could come back and refill your mug as long as your staying at the same resort. I would never think of using say a Polynesian Mug at Caribbean Beach or Visa Versa. We have bought mugs in 4 different resorts. If we go back to those particular resorts, we use the cup. Otherwise, we would buy a new one. I don't think that is abusing the privilige especially when we were told to bring them back. I pay for four mugs each of those vacations and I doubt we used $160.00 worth of soda!!! Beleive me, if they did not want you to reuse them, you would be told!!! They emphasize that they can be used on upcoming trips.

$10 - that's cheap. On the cruise line the mugs were $20. With a price like that, you have to really think "do i really want that souvenier". The soda becomes secondary.

And, yes, we did buy the mugs.

Whether on the cruise ship or in the park it makes sense, on our last trip I didn't want to get them cuz of the $20.- my wife does not drink alcohol and her soda bill almost topped my bar bill!

We just got back from Disney on Sunday and bought new mugs from the Port of Orleans (first time staying there). We have stayed at All-Star a number of times and have been told we could use our mugs from the last trip etc, no problem. Before we purchased the new mugs my wife asked if we could use the all-star mugs there and they told us we had to purchase new "Port of Orleans" mugs. We bought the mugs, we had no issue until the second day there. I noticed many folks were given paper cups (for free). This was later verified by a couple meeting us there and told me they were not charged for the drinks, and our plastic cups were a rip off. Made me feel real good about spending the 44.00 plus (4 mugs). I also noticed other mugs from resorts being used plus some from the parks. I never seen any of these folks questioned or told they were doing something wrong. I guess my complaint would be the CM's (or management) need to be more consistant with the enforcement of the rule.

Needless to say I had a great trip - Parks relatively empty (except Halloween night), great weather and I had nothing else to gripe about.

Once again...a few greedy, selfish individuals who have found ways to cheat the system to save a few bucks have ruined it for the rest of us. :(

When I first purchased Mugs at the Contemporary Resort, I was told you could use them ONLY at that resort...but you could bring them back and use them everytime you stayed at the Contemporary. When I stayed at the Polynesian I bought mugs there and was told the same thing.

Then people got greedy and started selling the mugs on Ebay and then started giving them or selling them to their friends and relatives who went to Disney World and now they are changing the rules to "Length of Stay" mugs. What a shame.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a mug that says Contemporary Resort on it should only be used at the Contemporary Resort. The same goes with all the other resort mugs.

We will still be buying Resort mugs because we drink alot of coffee and coke and we will still be saving a ton of money, but now I'm going to have to build more shelf space for all of these sovineer mugs I will be bringing home after every trip.

Why can't people just be honest and follow the rules? It makes it simpler and cheaper for everyone in the long run.;)

Ok, I'm going to get bashed, I can just feel it!:hammer:
Here goes...
We usually stay on property and have a refrigerator in the room or sometimes just find the nearest ice machine and fill up a bucket there with ice...so why not stop at Crossing and get a couple of two liter bottles for the room along with some snack stuff? I mean, you can take the mugs into the parks but they aren't going to refill them for you....so then you have to carry them around all day. Like bottled water would be better to take around the park instead of the mug. So what exactly are we debating about? Whether or not we can use the mug each and every time we go back (we have bought a couple in our "early" vacations at WDW and they made great souveniors)?
I can see going down to the pool area and bringing the mug down and if you're going to be spending a lot of time at the hotel then it would be a good thing but if you're only going down for a short trip, it's just not worth it in my opinion.:o
Ok, don't bash me too bad guys!

I think we are debating on whether or not you can get away with using a mug from one resort at another. And I think one could probably get away with it but it would be easier to ger caught that way.

Actually, you have made my point....

When one buys a mug, they really don't get to use it all that often - who really does want to carry it around all day?

So being that no one uses them all that often, what's the problem with bringing the mugs back to use again?

Not like the fountain drinks cost Disney much! :animwink:

Good Grief! Just use whatever mug you have, and see if the CMs let you. There's no legal contract on mug usage. They are advertised as "refillable mugs" for a reason. And they're priced over $10 for a reason. It's just business- not much room for moral contemplation.

I can tell you from experience that WL and C and POR have let us use any mugs, while CS only allowed their own. No big deal. Just try and see.
