Hotel Booking in Advance Question. Help Needed!

I finally convinced my husband to stay on-site. I just need to know a few things since I haven't done this in a while:

1. Can I book the room only now and if there are any offers between now and our vacation, would they apply?

2. How much do you have to pay when you make the reservation and is it refundable up until a certain point?

3. Is "room-only" the way to go for discounts?

Thank you. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

We always wait to book until they release discounts like Play, Stay, Dine & Save (we're checking in under this promo in 9 days!). We've never booked room-only so I can't comment on that -- we just wait for a good package discount and book the whole thing at once.

1. Yes you can book a room only now and then alter it later on when other offers come out.

2. I believe it's the cost of your 1st nights stay, unlike packages which are a $200 deposit. Refund date is much closer in (sorry, can't remember the exact number of days), whereas packages are 45 days out.

I do the exact same thing, book in July or so for full price, then when the Play Stay and Dine option comes out we re-book and get the difference removed from the balance. One year, we received a refund back to my CC.

Also, while I tried planning imaginary vacations, the room-only discount seemed to only work when there were no other discounts available. Granted, I did not check for Deluxe resorts but at a Value resort stand point, I saved a bit more booking an entire package deal (Stay, play and dine).

Usually when putting a down payment on a reservation, it was only I believe $100 or 200 dollars.

Cancellation I found this from 2013, not sure if it's still current or updated...

"Cancellation Fees Prior to Guest Arrival

Cancellation of Reservation - If the reservation is cancelled amounts paid, minus cancellation fees, vacation insurance premium, and other amounts owed, will be refunded. For cancellations made 44 days or less prior to guest arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $200 per package, plus any cancellation fees assessed by third party hotels or other suppliers."

Keep in mind that if you book directly through Disney that the discount that might be able to be applied would have to be called in. At Kingdom Konsultants we keep an eye on the discounts for you and call to apply any discounts as they come up, assuming availability at your selected resort.
If you are booking a package (room plus tickets, along with any other options such as dining plans etc) the deposit amount due is $200.00. The remaining balance is due 45 days prior to check in. 45 days is also the last day you can cancel without any penalty at all.
A room only deposit is the cost of one night's stay plus tax, with the remaining balance due at check in. Cancellation without a penalty is at 5 days or more prior to your arrival date.
Trip insurance can be added to a package only and is non refundable after a review period of 14 days. This can be added up to the final payment date, but not after that.
Any airfare purchased is due at the time of the purchase and depending on the airline is most likely non refundable and may carry change fees. The different air carriers do vary in their policies though so be sure to check that out.
Discounts are usually available in both forms room only and packages. The amount on that is the same for the same promotion. For example right now there is a Spring Discount offer. I can do that as a room only option or combine it with theme park tickets and any other options to make it a package. The discount amount is still the same regardless. Marie

1) yes and yes. They can apply discounts at anytime more than 1 month out on an existing reservation

2)A package is $200. A hotel is one night stay. It's refundable up to 8 days out for the hotel

3)Discounts done change for room only or packages. the hotel room is still a seperate cost. just figure the difference between free dining, hotel room disc, etc and how it applies to u.

I always book my hotel then add a package a few months out. it's cheaper to reserve a package but it's harder to get a refund.

Thanks everyone. So what I'm hearing is if I book the package it's only $200 down and if I decide to cancel the whole trip before the 45 days I'll get the $200 back?

Yes and you should be able to get it back. You can ask when you call. I have cancelled reservations to make new ones at different hotels without a problem but It may have been just because I was making a new reservation that they were willing to refund. Just ask when you call and you will be all set.

Exactly, anything under 45 days you will pay the $200. Anything before you will get a refund for the down payment. You can always give Disney a call, it's free and they will tell you right off the bat.

The $200 is the deposit. You need to pay off the entirety of your package price by that 45 day window. They will often grant an extension if you call and ask, but you do need to pre pay the remainder before your trip actually happens. If you book a room only reservation you pay 1st night as the deposit, and then pay the rest upon check in.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but can you tell me what the play, stay, and save discount was?
